I need to pick a hard drive. I have to get from microcenter so online will not work.

I have decided on a WD Caviar Black. I really only care about gaming with some storage for music.

    I have 3 options:

    1. Cavair Black 500-$70 the cheapest. 2 250 size platters.

    2. Caviar Black 1tb-$100 bigger platters (333?)but more $$$.

    3. Caviar Black 1tb 64 cache-$115 the most expensive but te nrw sata 6.0. My mobo doesnt even support sata 6 so that prolly wont help me.

I would like to get a SSD in a year or so when the prices will be better. So i would like to keep that in mind.

I would love all input and thanks very much.

don't even bother with the sata 6 as there are no mechanical - and very few SSD's at that - hard drives capable of filling sata 6 or even sata 3. I would go for the 1 TB considering that its only a 47 percent price increase for a 200 percent storage increase.

Either will be fine. Only defining factor is how much space you need.

The Sata 6 wont fill out sata 3 but it is slightly faster...Not sure if the price is worth the very little performance gains

the WD Blacks are super good hard drives period you wont go wrong with any model..I'm using two WD black 500's in Raid0 at 180mb/s average read write.. alone they do 100mb/s average

I believe the 1tb is slightly slower by like 1mb/s average but that's nothing and you get so much more storage...

If I remember right the 640gb Blacks were the fastest
    Odium says thanks.

If you have Vista or 7, try getting one of the new WD drives with 64MB cache. They're supposed to be really fast with the advanced sector management.
