Okay, I have an issue and I wanna make sure it's not completely my fault.

Three AOC 2425's which pull 24w according to their site,a VE510b Viewsonic (30w) , and a HP 2009f (56w) for monitors. My desktop is listed in the specs.

Now the house electric bill is normally $130 but for the month that I got the monitors apparently the bill went up $100. I'm trying to make sure that's not my fault completely. All 5 monitors go to sleep after 5 minutes of no use to around 5-10w of usage total. I had my SLI going the previous month so everything is leading to the three new monitors driving the bill up $100 which I personally thing is bs.

Desktop runs 24/7, monitors are on 24/7 but again, sleep. 5 days a week they're active 10 hours a day and the other 2 days they're on 10-16 hours, total of at most 80-90 hours of active time.

The desktop averages 20-50 CPU usage and 40-60 GPU usage at any given moment. I know that second 780 isn't helping.

It's 8.5 cents per kwh for 600kwh and 10 cents per kwh going over 600kwh where I'm at. I'm trying to figure out how much my desktop costs to run per month to get that $230 bill straightened out so I'm not charged extra on my rent per month. Any help guys?

those monitor numbers are the maximum, NOT what they use normally. i've got monitors rated at 35W that use 21W at default settings.
Sleep mode for devices is typically <5W


buy a wall power meter (or several) some of them can record the total time they've been running + total consumption so you can get accurate readings for the power usage.

If I had the money, I would. Been out of work for over a week due to reeaalllyy bad illnesses.

Also I gathered if my desktop was full blast and monitors on 24/7. That'd be like, $60/mo just for my setup.

you might as well treat asleep as off.


even with the 780 SLI, if you game with Vsync on you're still going to be under 500W at full ball - even with 'low 3D' and the second card not powering down (AMD works that way for multi monitor, dunno for nvidia) your 2D load monitors included should be <250W

an electric heater or such would explain that power far easier than a PC.

The biggest game I run on my 780's is Metro Last Light Redux and it's also the only game I can't max. Other than that it would be Warframe, Banished, and some DX9 MMORPG game at once.

I even took out the air conditioner which was a huge power hog. I can only assume the heat being on more is what caused it.

electric heating/cooling are the biggest power users. even a small electric heater can easily be 2000W.

Heats the house which is 3 bed/2 bath, living room, kitchen, den, and laundry room. My room is the only one where the vent is closed since my desktop is heat.

It's 3 people living here. The microwave gets used daily, washer/dryer 5-7 times a week at most. Stove is daily because I love my ramen. Oven is rarely.

Small fridge and fridge/freezer combo. Errrr... I can't think of anything else.

Maybe this will help you. I have 12 rigs that run 24/7/365 under full load. They together add about $150 to my electric bill. That's about $12.50 average per rig per month. My rigs don't know what sleep mode is. So there is no way in hell that your rig is pulling $100 per month. Even if you have a higher rate then me. I would say $20 to $25 tops and I am doubting that much.

You would have to check the heat producing element in your house those are the things which produce a massive amount of heat. An electric kettle is 800w. An iron is 1400w. A dryer is 2000w at least. The water heater if electric another 2000w. The stove 2000w if electric. Toaster 900w. It is unlikely for you computer to dent your bill significantly as compared to appliances that produce heat. Another power guzzler is the air conditioning 2500w east from those.

Your rig would only be a problem if you are to run prime95 and furmark 24-7 or you happened to do crunching 24-7. Your rig would always go down to a lower power state maybe running at 100w only. Lcd monitors nowadays are very efficient you are unlikely to even pull the rated watt in the monitor unless you turn the brightness to max and the colour to max. Even then the LCD is really efficient. I'll estimate your monitors to be 150w on average use for all. So we have a reference average of 250w lets just add another 150w for those peak usage time. 400w X 24hour x 30 days. = 288kwh
Total electricity cost = 8.5 cent x 288 = $24.48 Just a small dent.

Someone in the house must have forgotten to switch the iron off. Or they bathe with a heater too long. Maybe too much laundry as well, those washing machine and dryer drive bills up so high. Just hanging your clothes would drop the bill significantly.

hah our gas bill (gas heating) went up $500 for 3 months, that kinda rise is definitely possible.

cough up the ~$20 for a power meter and make your case clear, to save money in the long run.

Just take pictures when leaving the job and multiply the result until you find the anomally.

I was pushing a cheap chinese meter to the limit in my old bitcoin farm (was dual voltage by the way, worked great until the heat melted the prongs off lol) There are some photographs of it here somewhere, somewhat agressively converted to nema plug parameters.
