what would you have us do to help?

the core clock is suppose to be 625mhz according to specs, maybe the manufacturer lowered the clock speed so the stock HSnF can deal with the heat so the card doesnt die off as fast, they wont have to deal with so many RMA's this way and so they can list a longer garantee as a selling point.

The x1900xt's run very hot from what i hear.

anyone else got a x1900xt who can say their clocks are what specs say?...pls say what manufacturer also.

it has two clock speeds.. a slow 2D one and a faster 3D one.. when a 3D app (game) is cranked up the card speeds up to its rated speed.. a neat system which cuts down on noise and heat..

u are simply seeing the 2D speed.. whilst atitool works well with the single speed x800 cards i dont use it with my x1900.. the two speeds confuse it..

The reason ATI Tool is still showing the 2d clocks is that as soon as you minimize, you're back in 2d mode. Your computer doesn't process the graphical data of minimized programs.

As a side note, you're going to have to manually force the high clocks in the Overdrive tab if you want to play your games windowed.

As for not using ATI Tool, I canned it as well. At this point with my new X2 4400+ with 2GB of ram it barely bogs up the system at all.

EDIT: Maybe a topic regarding this should be stickied as it seems everyone freaks out the first time they see the clocks. Maybe if ATI/2nd party brands would just put this info in the manual, there'd be fewer problems.

Yes, It's true. ATI Tool works great (Beta 25 .14). I run dual monitors off my Saphire X1900XTX- Soon as you minimize any 3D app., the clock speeds drop back too 500/594. Using the catalyst control center to OC the card, you can see it boost up to the requested clock speeds of 690/800 as well as see the temp climb around the temp meter.

slightly off topic:

After running Far Cry patches and starting up the single player game, I get up to like 220 fps and get a rebooting crash WITHOUT ATITool Fan control running (and also not hearing the hair dryer fan kick in at all). I was going to ask if anyone could tell me if this is because ATITool takes over the fan control from the catalyst drivers? I will keep ATITool up from now on but was wondering why the card itself doesn't spin up the fan anymore with atitool shut down.

mine dosnt spin up the fan without atitool that much.. which is good news cos it dosnt run 100% till it really heats up.. at 100% the hairdryer turns into a dental drill.. the horrible racket it makes at boot up i think is 100%

i would swop it but artic have buggered things up with their new accelero cooler which pumps the 100 of watts of heat straight into the case.. noooo way..

HIS sell one with a better artic type cooler.. shame u cant buy the cooler on its own..
