Powering up one pc shuts down the internet for all the rest

Originally in the house I have the 2 computers in my system specs. However 6 weeks ago I gave birth to a new cub so I set up another temporary computer in my den so as to have both computer and cub within reach.

All 3 computers are connected to the internet via wifi.

I hadn't powered up the White Bengal pc for 3 or more weeks.

Yesterday I powered it, everything worked fine... all I did was buyThe Walking Dead for my daughter, browsed Steam, downloaded the free demo of The Talos Principle, and spent an hour or so playing it.

After I quit the game, I noticed that I had no internet. The wifi signal had that 'sun' symbol on it. Not only on the White Bengal pc but on the other two as well.

To get internet back on the other 2 computers I have to switch off White Bengal (and leave it off) and switch the modem off and back on.
As soon as I switch the White Bengal on, 'bam' there's no internet in the house.

What could be the problem here?

Try checking in the modem/router for some setting that limits the number of devices allowed access at the same time.
I have mine set to 5, as, that is the number I have accessing at one time max.

Have you tried hardwire? It could be a channel issue and also what wifi router do you have?

I don't think that's the problem because I can connect a tablet and a cell phone at the same time as the 2 other computers (making that a total of 4 devices).

Have you tried hardwire? It could be a channel issue and also what wifi router do you have?

My modem/router is a Cisco EPC3925. It was provided by my cable ISP.
The channel is on 'auto' and it's using channel 1.

To hardwire is to run network cable to the router or network switch. Also check the group your puters are set to ..

You could try manually setting up the IP's and DNS for each connecting computer as this will or should make sure there is not conflicts due to ip.

I believe he means plugging them in using RJ-45 cables.

Note that up to a month ago running both pc's in my system specs on wifi at the same time worked with no problem. Since then, the White Bengal was never switched on. The Black Panther worked fine, as did the temporary pc I set up.

Now the pc's get no internet as long as the Edimax usb wifi is in the White Bengal.
They view connections, but can't connect.

By the way, a couple of hours ago I switched the White Bengal on, and inserted the USB wifi later after windows was loaded. The internet 'held' for around an hour or so, then it went off again.

Also do you have anything else in the house that uses close to the same freq? I had an issue once with a wireless keyboard were it would cut out my INET. As soon as I turned off the keyboard my wireless worked.

Tried rebooting the modem then the router ?. If you had not had it working in the passed i would of thought wifi connections were limited though the router. With it being a ISP one would that allow the ISP t6o update it when they feel like so i would check the settings if possible.

Nothing that I know of. Certainly nothing was added these past 4 weeks.

I'm thinking it's not even a modem/router problem now. Because when the internet gets disconnected, I can't even get any computer to connect to the neighboring unsecured wifi! Unless I remove the Edimax USB from the White Bengal...

IMHO, this is a question for your ISP. I would personally experiment with the channels on the router. I recently dealt with an issue of my router not allowing new connections. I had to reboot it for any new device to connect. My ISP recommended trying different channels. It hasn't completely fixed the problem, but I have not spent much time working on it either.

id try a new gateway for sure, if it still does it, format the white bengal and try again. After that call the cable company

You could try a simple test. Move White Bengal back to where it was and see if the problem vanishes. If it does, you have a wireless problem, not a "format the PC" problem.

Although on step 8 you be changing the wireless one not the local network one which is for when using a wired connection.

The only explaination I can think of is that the Edimax USB dongle is filling the 2.4 GHz frequency with garbage data...perhaps because it is overheating...which effectively turns it into a signal jammer. I'd try replacing it--perhaps with a USB dongle loaned from another system.

Something you might try is unplugging the router/modem thing and turning on all PCs, and then turning the modem back on. I had an issue where 10 mobile devices, 3 pc's, 1 laptop, 1 printer, 3 wireless mice, a trackpad, and two consoles were all trying to connect to my internet. I'd tried both the router/modem combo and double NAT'ing the apple airport extreme, but neither worked. Turned out the signals were too cluttered. Having all the devices searching at the same time and then turning on the router/modem apparently had it choose the channels with the least interference.

While I was writing this I saw the later post along with GT90's post. It's probably that. The above might fix other problems though.

No it's the EW-7722UnD.

That worked!

Weird though how the dongle quit on me, it was the last thing I suspected.

It's the most expensive one I ever bought (got it for €35 locally), thought it would be better than the no-name cheap ones I get from ebay.
