Instead of buying multiple sets of headphones why not just spend more money on one good set?

Of those choices I would go with HiFiman but I'd spend more and get a higher end model. I've used the 400i though and they did sound nice.

I don't think you should be looking at the Shure SRH1840. what about the Oppo PM-3 or Audeze EL-8?

HiFiman every single time.

I love my HE-400's, and I've been told the i's are great. With how cheap the 400's are, getting those and some 400i/560 pads might be the way to go too. I plan on buying some of those pads, but the stock felts work pretty damn well too. :D
