Problem With 24-bit SB Live!

I can't seem to get my friend's SB Live! to work. It isn't even being detected as new hardware and none of the drivers from Creative will install. When I remove it and place it in my computer it is automatically detected, Window's XP drivers install, and it runs flawlessly.

1) I've tried formatting and that has not helped.
2) I've installed chipset drivers.
3) Windows is up to date.
4) I've tried alternate PCI slots.
5) I've disabled on-board sound to prevent conflicts.
6) I've reset CMOS.

The System is:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2.2GHz Socket A
Motherboard: Unknown Manufacturer with Nvidia nForce 2 Ultra 400
Memory: 1GB DDR400

ultra 400? is it blue perchance? if so its probably an albatron board as for the sound i had the same problem i had to enable the the onboartd and then i had to finangle around the hardware monitor.

I think it just may be an Albatron. I remember when he got it and all I remember was I didn't hold the brand in high regards. Can you perhaps describe what you did with the hardware monitor?

um.....ok let me try and backtrack here....first enable it let windows install stuff then you disable it and put the soundblaster in my main problem for detection was mainly because i needed to clean the pins. then i installed it and it was detected but had an io error because it had no resources so after the SB was detected i installed the drivers then i went into the bios and disabled onboard. then i booted windows back up and i had to go into device manager and go to the properties of the SB and tell it to hmm what was it map through this divice i think then i uninstalled all the onboard stuff and rebooted and i think that did the trick.

i think it may be an albatron k18dx10II or somehing possibly thats the only board i can think of with a nf2 ultra2 chipset and it happens to be the board i used to own so you may be inluck if it is.

That did it. Thanks Solaris. That was a pain. I had choose to install the Windows drivers. I couldn't get it to do it automatically. This board is a pain.
