Hey, well a lot of the time this computer will just lock up, and just totally not respond. Recently, the monitor went black with thin whitish vertical lines down it, then it sounded like everything turn off, monitor went black and just the green light on the computer was on.
Is that possibly a heating problem?

Also, another thing sometimes when I boot it up, it will beep about 6 times and just stay at a black screen. I posted this a while ago and was suggested to make sure all my motherboard settings in bios was default except most of the settings in bios are hidden, with only very basic one's like boot order being in there. (It's a Compaq Presario S3270AN, I didn't build it).

Well any help would be appreciated :D .

With something old like that, it's good to completely dissasemble/reassemble it (using proper themal paste of course), and do a general clean up. Then reinstall your OS.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

I actually just cleaned it out; took fans off and wiped them, cleaned heatsink (hell of a lot of dust to be cleaned after 3 years lol...) but don't have any thermal paste right now to reapply. Also formatted and reinstalled from recovery discs.

Thanks for the links to the beep codes...I'll make sure I note down the sequence next time it beeps.

This was a great computer, soon 6 years old now...guess it's just getting aged lol :D .
