Is it possible that my AMD AthlonXP 3000+ has an locked Multiplicator? I tried a speedstrip with my A7N8X Board from Asus and nothing worked. BTW my CPU doesn't have 166 MHz FSB it has 200 MHz. Seems to be a newer one

If your using socket 939 then all multipliers are locked except for the FX-5x CPU's. Also all Athlon 64's on socket 939 run at FSB 200.

A few questions-
Does your bios have-
1) AGP/PCI frequency lock
2) FSB Changer
3) voltage controls

And what kind of temps are you getting at idle and load right now stock? Stock cpu heatsink?

All bartons after week 49 are locked. 3000+ is default 200Mhz fsb X 10,5 multiplier. It's almost certain that your is locked too. To be honest, i haven't seen unlocked 3000+. :)

Lock the AGP/PCI
Then raise the vcore to 1.7 volts, and then move the fsb up by 5 mhz until you cant boot into windows. Then when you cant boot into windows, raise the vcore up my another 1/10 of a volt. Make sure you watch the temps carefully! Dont go higher under load than 60 C, but 55 C load is ideal. Then when you find the max speed you are comfortable with, download and run Prime95 for 3 hours, if you get no errors that should indicate a stable oc.

I found a way I think. By connecting L5 Bridges of my CPU it will become a unlocked Mobile. But 1 problem I still have, my PC Magazine tells I need the second from right only, others say I need the next left, too. Whats right?

the cpu is locked for sure super locked i cant unlock my 2 but here a link:http://www.ocinside.de/go_d.html?/html/main_workshop_d.html
the board is good just raise the fsb by 5 then test perhaps with super pi ( should be at least 2 mb to decide)
and look for temp
if the prog gives u a error raise core volt
hf :)

pps: 2800 barton locked multi. @ 192 fsb XD

They're talking about the multiplier, not the FSB speed.

Sorry, my bad. My board doesn't let me change my multiplier by making it higher, I can only decrease but that might be my bios.

A lot of Athlon XP desktop chips are super-locked, embedded into the core. The only way to OC these is the FSB.

You say you can LOWER the multiplier, decreasing the clockspeed?

Some people think they can get a wee bit more of an overclock if they put a lower multiplier, and a much higher fsb. Say, rather than 10x 220 (2.2ghz), one would run 9.5x 240 (2.28ghz). Personally, I think this is retarded. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

It can drastically increase performance because then all other components on the motherboard are also overclocked. You FSB can have a huge influence. I would lower my multiplier because my memory can't handle the 2:1 ratio and then run at 333MHz. So I can't handle that and my CPU can't go higher. So I lower the multiplier, increase the FSB with the new 5:3 ratio of the memory, and I get an optimally overclocked CPU and RAM that runs at their best speeds and timings. It's all about balance. ;)
