    Corsair 650W TX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 80.. | Ebu...

CM Storm Sniper Black Edition Case - With Windowed...

Corsair Cooling Air Series A70 Socket Intel 775, 1...

    Intel Core i7 860 2.8GHz Socket LGA 1156 8MB L3 Ca...

    Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 P55 Socket 1156 8 Channel Aud...

    G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 Ripjaw....

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

I've got that boards little brother and I can say so far it's not let me down at all. Feels solid, durable and i've had no problems with it whatsoever.

Overall should be a nice build!
    NdMk2o1o says thanks.

Looks solid M8. I have an older version of that mobo P55-UD4P and an i7-860 @ 3.8Ghz 24/7 folding and crunching. You should not disappoint;)

Interesting Peet, never had any issues with mine (although I have the DDR3-2000 version of the RipJaws seen HERE)

That exact kit of 1600 blues failed hard in both my GBs. I also had the 2K kit of black ones. They ran OK, but only at the rated speed.

I'm not too fussed about oc the ram, the timings are pretty tight, so long as I can hit a 200bclk and keep the mem close to 1600 I think I will be happy, that said I have seen some 2000mhz corsair sticks for around the same price, just liked the look of the ripjaws...

    Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 2000MHz Memory Kit Non-EC...

What do you think of these instead?

I grabbed the blue RJs because they looked purdy;) (still failed) I would go with the Corsairs over those.

They look teh sex :rockout: hmm how much perf difference is there between 1600 and 2000 anyway, really love the look of the ripjaws, heck I am open to different boards also as I only chose the p55 UD4 as the GB UD range are known to be good and I don't know a lot about 1156 motherboards :toast:

Well with good motherboards, why would you skimp on the ram, I mean why not just use a 350W PSU while you are at it;) All kidding aside, the GB loves good ICs, and doesnt play well with average ICs.

I have had Trident 2Ks that can do 25-2600mhz, I have a 2400 set of patriots that rock. Now I am tinkering with some CAS6 1600 sticks and while they feel snappy, I do loose a fair bit of badwidth to the 2K kits.

Woop my build is still on, my big order is due to come in before the end of this month so I will be paid on it next month (December)

Open to ideas on this, 1156 or should I go x58, anyone used any of the sabertooth boards by Asus?

I was wondering how much of a performance gain you would expect from that upgrade, looks like a sidegrade to me (with only 10% improvement in l4d2, toms hardware, and up to only 20% in multithreaded tasks => not enough to justify upgrade which is usually more than 20% across the board for noticable power increase) I do appreciate that VAT is going to increase by 2.5% come Jan though, but that's just going to add £25 to a £1000 build, it might be worth your £25 to wait for Sandy Bridge?

My 550 is pissing me off, infact it has done since I got it, it unlocks to x4 but it doesn't clock very high, perhaps I need a new cooler but tbh I am looking to upgrade anyhow.

An i7 at 4.0ghz with HT on would stomp all over any PII x4 at multithreaded apps especially as I can't get a decent OC out of it, not to mention some goo 1600-2000mhz ram would be a lot faster than my current set.

I want a new toy is the short answer to that lol, I don't have to have a reason lol, this is TPU :toast:

I will take that argument. :toast:

But really, I will still wait for Sandy Bridge, to me (at least) the £25 gamble might pay off. But SB is still a few months away, and upgrade itch will increase exponentially...
