4. the 1070 and 1080 are both faster respectively

if you are selling a NV 9xx Gpu expect it to sell for 300 at the max(assuming its a mint AIB card) I don't care if its a 980ti or a 970 because the 1070 retails at 380 bucks and its faster

Good luck finding a 1070 for 380$ right now, Nvidia is right to expect they can sell the 9xx for their current price.

Imo, as an owner of a couple 970's. A 970 used( lets be honest, saying a video card is in good,or great ,or mint condition is ridiculous....they arent used to break rocks, they sit inside a pc for 2 years :) , and not to mention, its not the scratches on the shroud that cause a gpu to fail...so even the most spirimint, menthol soaked gpu can fail day after purchase.) should have its worth based on time from purchase. But , just like with buying a new car, the second you drive it off the lot it loses 10% of its retail value,a gpu once opened, no matter what its co dition is immediately worth less than it retail counterpart. So, if you bought your beloved 970, for 340$ 1 year ago, and now you want to sell it, imo a reasonable asking price is $240 to start WITH shipping. Ive seen SO many ridiculous asking prices for 970 gpu on used fs sites its silly. But, as was pointed out in the op, this climate is special, becuz now we have WAY faster cards selling 4 close to what the 970 sold new. Imo, a young 970, sold used is worth no more than 200$ +or - 50 bucks depending on model, since a 980ti can be bought new for 360 right now, noone is gonna pay 250 for a used (regardless of how shiny) 970.

Good point onemoar :toast:

here is what I would pay
970 200 and you cover shipping
980 240 and you cover shipping
980 ti 250 and I pay shipping (maby 300 on the outside if its a decent AIB card)
those are fair offers for old gen cards
my rule of thumb is that if you can replace something for <100 dollars more then what they sell used with a new model,go with the new model
or if the prices difference between the used product and the new product is <20% then go with the new product

Iunno man, I got my 780's after the 9xx release for $425 total and have been pretty happy ever since. I mean sure the 970 has 1gb more vram but at that time it was $350 for one 970 or $425 for two 780's where the only differences was power use and vram since the two cards go head to head. I'd say I got a good deal thanks to amazing TPU sellers.

I'm just gonna stick with my GTX 980. I see very little point in upgrading with AMD offerings still months away and NVIDIA price inflating. Besides, new GTX 1000 series aren't anything revolutionary. They couldn't even care enough to implement proper async shaders. That's just lazy.

true enough but that simply means the buyer was ill-informed,which makes the seller a scumbag in my book
I could very well sell this 7970 that I bought here for 100 dollars to somebody for 100 dollars, then I could afford to buy a RX480 but I won't Ill likely sell it for 40 bucks to somebody that needs it

Actually, the realistic price is going to be the average of what everyone is paying for it. If the average Buy it Now SOLD price for that 7970 on ebay is $100, then that's what the market is, and you're not a scumbag for doing so. If you sell it for $40, it just means you have zero business sense, because you will have massively shortchanged yourself.

Async sharers might take Nv a gen or two to get in hardware to be fair because they have to develop the Ip to do it without infringing others patents so I'd cut em slack on that issue but their pricing is ridiculous, and I'd pay 150 for a 970 at best used ,why because that's its worth to me and within 6 months the world will have moved on so much I'd feel ripped off paying more, prices will drop when Amd drops its 480 big time ,even my stoic Nv fanboy m8 is getting one for because who can afford an occulous or vive and a Gtx 1080.

I am poor , money I do not have but ill be dammed if I am gonna screw somebody else out of a potentially better deal, to fatten my own wallet far too often in this world that is the case
I am the guy that if I am selling you a used laptop I am gonna tell you that you are better off buying new,if you still wanna buy my laptop cool if not I am happy you got the better deal
I will not resort to selling core2 era laptops for 250 bucks I don't care what everybody else is doing

used 80% of the time when you are talking about components is the better deal the exception too this appears to be this generation of gpus

Id say that a member (atleast in regards of tpu) deciding to sell a gpu at 40 is being human, not lacking business sense at all.
For one, speaking for myself, and im gonna assume others do the same, i dont need the revenue from selling what items i do sell here on tpu, and when i sell them for what i feel is honest, i certainly dont lack a business sense, im just putting members before money.i cant say either way if that is what onemoar had in mind when stating selling a 7970 for 40, but if it was, i dont feel theres a lack of business sense, id say its a prescence of heart.

Well I'm not saying that I'd sell it for $100 on TPU if the average selling price is $100. I would probably sell it at $80 here. That's reasonable, and there's nothing scummy about it. It's a decent discount for this community. Anywhere else though, and I'm selling it at whatever rate anyone else is paying for it, minus maybe 5% in order to make sure it's noticed and sold.

Yup, i agree.
And to be clear, i wasnt so much arguing your point,as i was pointing out that onemoar might have had a similar idea to mine when saying 40 for the 7970.i agree w/ wat your saying, just not the "lack of business sense" part.

I agree it is up to each person what they want to selll theyre item for. 20 or 40 more isnt the problem imo, its the "asking 340 for my perfect condition gtx 970" when trying as hard as possible to not use the word "used". Imo, its scummy to ask a ridicuous price, because it shows intent of trying to get one over on a fellow community member (refering only to tpu since i only sell here now,and becuz my sense of commumity, and care for fellow members)

Everyone has the right to have theyre own view on worth, and i can respect that, i personaly just couldnt sleep at night knowing i sold an item at an unfair price.

I always try and ask myself "would i buy this item from someone at this price after THEY used it for a year?"....thats how i try to reach my asking prices.

agree I have passed up cheap components from certain users here simply because I know how they treat there hardware, its also why I would't sell this 7970 for more then 40 bucks its had a very hard life its spent most of its time at load and its also been twice-baked in the re-flow oven at work and even if it had never been baked I still would't ask more then 50 for it because its from frigging 2012 and for 100 bucks you can replace it with something new thats just as fast (rx470?)

You should all be forming a lynching mood, but instead its the sellers fault. When in fact you all made it the climate it is, I seen launches before same same. Then it all calms down, I bought my 2 780TI DCIIOC $750 each. Yeah I was ticked when the 980'S dropped, but then again had I not bought them..........Reflows last 5 months tops, it will die again atleast reflow it before you sell it to give max time. Reflows are bandaid surgery nothing more, not fixing anything just prolonging it. I got a 6950 used very little looks brand new, sold it and the damn thing wont even show up in windows device's..................SMH! LOTTERY! I will be buying a red card next if nothing but to give them time to compete without them you'll be paying well more then now.

Well if you need it that badly now. I would choose 1060(Ti) over used 9x0(Ti) later this year. Who will cover my losses when 980Ti drops from 400$ used now to 200$ later. Nobody, so no need to be charitable and lead people to believe that they can easily get rid of their antiquated hardware moment before it drops flat and let someone else take the hit. Let the prices adjust. Be patient and buy something new and fresh no need to trade with someone that just took a hit either.

o_O Why would you expect to cover your losses on selling used hardware? You're never going to do that unless you sell used cars. You buy something, and should assume that it loses value automatically.

I expect the 980 Tis to stay in the 350 range when the 1070 is readily available. To this day I still see people trying to sell 780 Tis for more than a 970.
