Obviously it's going to need a touchscreen to compete with the immensely popular iPhone and iPod.

    Apple has a portable console?

I like the idea of a new PSP. Seems mildly early, though.

So apple is controlling the market with simple little flash games on the touch or something? This said gaming console.

That's what's bothering me. Apple doesn't even have a game console.

Apple is taking over the portable gaming console market. The iPhone and iPod are becoming huge in terms of gaming, and the App Store's game selection is very very good.

Apple has a good advantage. iPods and iPhones are liked by everyone young and old, while the DS and the PSP are generally looked to as "kids" toys. I don't necessarily agree with this stereotype, but it's very true

Ugh, I hate all these uncomfortable portable consoles. My hand starts cramping after playing my PSP for an hour. Good thing the battery only lasts that long
I don't like either of the designs in the op. I REALLY hope they get something better out than that.

Apple has little flash games, which doesn't even classify the iPhone/iPod Touch, as a pure gaming console. If anything, they would compete against the Nintendo DS and DSi, that is, if it's a big hit. And knowing Nintendo, it will be for little kids.

However, I do like the second picture prototype. First one looks like it would be really easy to break the screen. And it will be a dramatic improvement over the latest version of the PSP...

Ipod yes, iphone.. I dunno. The PSP's largest competitor as far as gaming handelds go is the Nintendo DS. The iphone is a phone. It's popular because it's a phone and it does many other things. The ipod is still more of a portable media device that can also play games.

Regardless, the iPhone is able to play the same games as the iPod. So in speaking of Apple's gaming devices, the iPhone counts. Trust me, I play mine all the time. Zombie Attack FTW!

The App Store is on both the iPhone and the iPod. They just advertise the gaming stuff more on the commercials in relation to the iPod. That's why everyone thinks only the iPod plays games.

I have a PSP and I don't use it worth a crap. There is not a single entertaining game on there that I can enjoy.

Im not looking forward to another wasted investment via the PSP2 it should be scrapped before purchase.

you obviously haven't found the right games.. I love my PSP... I got it free from my cousin , who didn't even bother buying a game for it... I bought an 8gb mem card and downloaded some... uh I mean bought some games :)p) ... ATM, love Disgaea, and loved Final Fantasy: Crysis Core etc... PSP2 looks awesome on both picks IMO... but I'll still to my PSP since I got it free :)

I have FF7: Crisis Core, Monster Hunter and Dynasty Warriors. It does lack games for sure, I tried playing FPS games but it was so retarded.

the first image of the first post was just a fan-made pic of what the psp-3000 might look like when it was just a rumour last year.
imo, the next release will NOT be psp2, but psp4000.

I can't wait for this to happen! I love my psp, even if I don't play it. Yeah, Apple is eating up the market on gaming with their dang toys! My dad come up last week and had 15 games just for his Iphone.. I will never touch a Iphone, and never touch again, the Ipod..

You better put dual analog sticks on the psp2 Sony!!! One of the biggest problem with the psp is crappy controls because of the missing analog stick.

I agree, they better have the analog sticks on the PSP2.

Also, to the above posters who are saying the PSP has no games...Play God of War, Killzone: Liberation, or Patapon. All really good games.

Also, these games are coming out:

    Resistance: Retribution
    Little Big Planet
    Rock Band
    Assassin's Creed
    Motor Storm Arctic's Edge

I heard a Killzone is coming out for PSP also...

Why not just put a screen on a PS3 controller?

I think it would be pretty damn hard to engineer a PSP into a PS3 controller.
