Well I just built my new system and I see that my Q6600, when set to 'default settings' in BIOS, it defaults to 1866.7MHz with 1066 FSB and a multiplier of 7X. What do I do so it goes to 2.4GHz like its suppose to or use all 9 multipliers?

I'm an Intel OCing nub..

No, they're DDR1066 but they're running at DDR800 right now (also what the BIOS defaults to).

The timings and everything are correct.

When I overclocked mine, I wanted my ram kept at stock with my CPU overclocked.

So I lowered the frequency of the ram and then upped the FSB until the ram was back to stock mhz and the cpu was overclocked.
So if your ram is below stock, just raise FSB.

Can't you just change the multiplier to 9 in the BIOS and have the RAM set to run @ 1066?

Jackz5o are you trying to ask how to get your BIOS to redefine the default values for his CPU and RAM?

Or are you asking how to overclock intel chipsets?

Or both?

Its probably speed stepping c1e enabled in the bios if you download cpu-z and run some programs it should move to 2.4mhz if u want it at 2.4mhz all the time you have to dissable speed stepping in the bios.

Its definitley EIST

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EIST

In summary, it will lower your multiplier when the system is idle to save resources. Like Nitro says, run CPU-Z and something like Orthos or Prime95 and the multiplier will go back up and you will get your 2.4Ghz.

Its is absolutley nothing to worry about, and you certainly don't need to be looking at things like RAM frequency to try and "fix" it. When you need a 9x multi, it will switch to it.
