Sorry about the thread title but anyway to the point.

Ok So I've managed to overclock my Q6600 to 3.4Ghz B3 Stepping. Windows Vista loaded fine as always but thats not the problem. It's my DVD drive as I have moaned about before on this forum. It now will reconise the Disc but it won't load anything from it. Like I put my GTA SA disc in there which isn't scratched or broken and it detects it. But when I try to play GTA SA it says Unable to authenticate DVD in DVD Drive.

This only happens when it's overclocked past 3.2Ghz. Why? HELP.

I will eat who ever's babies who can tell me why this is affecting my DVD Drive.

Also I have had problems with my DVD drive before but has seem to be working fine until now.

I'm gonna get the model of the DVD Drive now so bare with meh.

ARGH! IT'S NOT DETECTING ANY DISC'S NOW! FFS!

This might be a FSB wall problem...over exact FSB freq you're losing your IDE or SATA drives, which leads to a problem.

I would just make this more simple and just go back to 3.2GHz then it'll work. xD

if your PCI-express frequency is on 'auto' it may be overclocking your pci bus which can cause bizzare crap.

Try and lock it at 100 or 105 (my q6600 won't boot past 400fsb unless the pci-e is 105 or higher, 105 should be fine with no 'bizzare crap')

Thanks guys for the quick reply. Vista won't boot it will just keep trying to load Windows with the green bar and it just keeps going until I take my disc out. I will try that PCI-E option now because it's on Auto. Thanks =].

Lol. It looks like it's the DVD drive because I've just reset my Q6600 to 2.4Ghz and it's still not working. But why did it go bad after 3.2Ghz?

You can forget what I just said there. It now works but it won't find my GTA SA Disc... Before it wasn't finding any disc's now it will find all of my CD's and DVD's apart from GTA SA. Meh My GTA SA Disc is not scratched or cracked. At least I can still play Bioshock :p.

Just reading over your post, is your DVD drive IDE or SATA?

IDE. It works fine now at 3.30Ghz but still won't read my GTA SA Disc.

I've downloaded a No CD Crack for it. I can now play my GTA SA without any worries :p. Also I do actually have DVD so having a No CD crack is not Illegal if i have purchased the game... right?

And I've got it to 3.50Ghz now and it's running smoothly again.

Yeah, no disc crack are completely legal as long as you purchased a license for it. It will give your discs longevity. Glad to see you at least sorted something.

BTW, is this the only problem you are having with it? Disc error on only one of the dvd's you own?

Yeah, but now it will not read my BF2142 disc... Sigh. Windows Won't boot with that in either now =[.
