Good afternoon,

I have recently acquired a new(used) system for myself.
The specs are as follows:
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme
CPU: Core i7 920
RAM: 8GB Patriot 1600mhz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 275
PSU: LC-Power 6600GP2 V2.3 (600W)

Now, this power supply has worked for 4-4,5 years flawlessly, according to the earlier owner who is a friend of mine. However, I question the rebliability of such a brand as LC-Power.

I have hanging around my place a Corsair VS550(Mind me, it isn't that good either) But it's less than a year old compared to the near 5 year old LCP. Another thing is that the Corsair one seems to deliver way more amps and watts on the 12V rail than this one does.
Would it be a smart choice to swap this lc-power unit for my earlier/younger corsair one?
Thanks in advance.

welcome to TPU!,
well I have never seen or hear about that power supply, I may stick with something a little bit better or trusted like Seasonic, Corsair, Thermaltake Enermax or Coolermaster for name a few, also always look for 80+ efficiency certificate, Bronce is a must, higher than bronze will be better but bronze is the minimum level you might get,

also, fill your specs here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/account/specs, that might help in a near future!

Thanks for you reply!
I have filled in my system specs section, I wasn't aware it existed.
I understand your concerns towards efficiency levels and more than that, the power supply quality. I am just trying to "hook myself" up with something until I can afford to buy a better unit. This is why the question of which current ones I have I should stick with.

It's a 5 year old PSU. I'd use the Corsair unit.

If you are not experiencing problems with the current PSU i would stick with that.

Not my words......i found this on Toms
The VS series is based on CWT's GPA design, which is a very low end design and uses JunFu caps, which aren't very good. Low efficiency is another disadvantage.
The GPA series only goes up to 500W, so Corsair is again inflating the wattage number on the label.
It is in fact worse than the CX series.

Does not look like a respected PSU the Corsair VS550 is a better brand name and probably safer to use with your system untill you can upgrade to a Trusted PSU

Thank you for all the replies!
My Corsair Unit delivers 42A and 505W Total on the 12V Rail.
I think I'm going to stick with the Corsair one, mostly due to the fact that this current LC-POWER one is nearly 5 years old.

I understand the the VS550 isn't all that great but it should suffice a system like this for a while, especially considering I don't really do anything "heavy" on my computer. I mostly just play Dota 2 and CS:GO.

Then yeah, the Corsair is the better choice and it's got plenty of amps.

I think it's a flip of a coin, so I'd go with the newer one, especially since it has a single 12v rail.

Thank you for all of your 2 cents!
I'm not sure I can select a "best answer" in this forum. I'm new here.
Either way, I thanked everybody who replied to the thread. I will be sticking with the Corsair unit for now.

Do not worry! I am aware!
I am a decent enthusiast and I know my stuff. I just don't think it hurts to ask for a second opinion sometimes. Either way, I will barelly be exceeding 350W on my PSU. As I previously stated, I don't do much heavy work or none at all.
I will however, switch to a trusted unit sometime in the near future.
Thank you again!
