I'm thinking about buying another HDD to put in RAID - but does the hard drive have to be made by the same manufacturer?

nope. just the same type of connection, like SATA or P/ATA. though you can always get those converter things.

Id reccommend drives of the same type (i.e. model)

Its not like having two drives isnt going to work, but if you buy a more expensive drive now and raid it with a crappy older drive your new drive will have to drop its performance to the same level as the other drive, which kind of defeats the purpose of RAID 0.

If your doing another type of raid it doesnt matter though.

I doesn't have to be the same drive, but it's recommended that they be the same Model/Capacity.

What kind of RAID are you thinking about doing? 0, 1, 0+1, etc.
