Using just Asus GPUtweak seems to hold core and mem frequency better, the log feature is very useful.

Move thread to TPU Club Forum?

wow....

Ghost town in here. Maybe if this was moved to the clubhouse forum, it'd get more hits?

On a more critical note...

For all the people that came out screaming fury at how cost effective and awesome these cards are, why aren't we seeing more people on TPU using them? It's a bit sad to see such fervent support for AMD's best single card and yet such low adoption.

For all the arguments about how AMD are great and Nvidia suck, how about more people vote with their wallets and buy 290(X)'s?

This is a poke at those not being vocal about their cards and a stab at those that were so biased it made the gpu threads obscene.

I would love to see how people are pushing their cards. I would like to see more benchies and reports on overclocking experience. I had to go over OCN to get info on the cards in real world use.

Is it true like the Titans a lot of people are using custom BIOS's? I read that over at OCN. Are voltages locked, what's the max overclock etc?

C'mon people, get posting about your cards - we, the TPU community want to hear about them. :rockout:

And I'd add that if any people come in to the clubhouse to trash talk your cards, just get them kicked out by a mod. :slap:

Really but with nvidia lowering their prices some stabbed ( HA ) AMD in the back instead of supporting the company that got the lower prices in the 1st place.

Only reason i have not is just cannot afford it at this time which i am sure some others are in the same boat to with Christmas coming and obama bs on it's way...

Wont be till March till i can think of getting one and should have lots of options by then although i don't really caree about non ref card as there is coolers out for thee card already.

I (and quite a few others, who actually have Titans or 780's) are really keen to see a good ol' benching fistfight between GK110 and Hawaii. It's good for a tech community to have constructive locking of horns (and i'm not being sexual :p).

I think people looking to buy 290's should be posting in this thread. It's a shame to see it under used.

Yeah, true but there are blocks out for them and other coolers.

Thought for the day. Someone should mod a Titan cooler and see if it works on a 290

Seriously?

Challenge Accepted. Anyone got any spare reference coolers laying around? I'll gladly buy a 290X and cannibalise it to get a Titan cooler on it and post results. I'll even send the cooler back in original condition.

A couple of Q's.

What's the voltage on it (normal versus used), is it a custom BIOS?

Also, the 3DMark score says the tesselation load is modified. You tweaked settings for optimum bench score ;)

I'll post some benches this weekend. Although my card is a bit crippled by my CPU. Its just the half-way point of my upgrade. Waiting to see steamroller.

No but seriously. If somebody sends me a reference Titan/780 cooler I will strap it to a 290X.

A 1055T is not crippling :) I had one OC'd to 4.2 and it handled everything except StarCraft II without issues.

Except mine utterly fails at overclocking. I can do 3.5Ghz on stock voltage. 3.6 requires 1.45V and its not 100% stable. I have the 125W TDP version. My biggest regret was not spending the extra for a 1090T. Its still good for gaming, just cripples my highest FPS.

Awesome!!

Also good to see not all potential has been lost when AMD switched over to that more space efficient memory controller.

As for an R9 290: I wish I could afford one, but as I'm just a student I'm already quite happy with what I've got atm. Also, my card being GCN should still hold its own for quite a while, atleast when OCed to 1150Mhz.

Very nice to see that card though =D over 1300MHz is awesome!

15th Warlock here, I have an XFX 290X, card is great for gaming, it throttles a lot though during benching, so I ordered an Accelero Hybrid to cool it, problem is the seller is probably using the pony express to ship it since I ordered it last Friday, and am not expected to receive it until the 20th :p

Sorry for the bad quality, I used my cell phone to take this quick picture.

As for the thread, it's kind of barren in here, some constructive criticism to the OP, maybe uploading pics of your rig, or the card itself would make it more attractive, even useful links to news and/or latest driver releases :)

Also, a lot of people claimed this card was the second coming of Christ and I see most of them not supporting AMD like mentioned by others, it's time to put your money where your mouth is, we need a healthy AMD and we need to support them, I realize in its current form the card is not able to cope with the heat it generates, but as soon as non reference cards are released with better coolers, please support AMD by buying the 290X and the 290, the cards are 2nd to none in terms of what you get for your money.

Hell, even buy reference cards and third party coolers like I did, at $399 the 290 is a bargain and I'm sure most of you fervent AMD supporters can afford a better cooler, just saying...

Otherwise all that bickering in the review threads amount to nothing more than trolling, lets get the ball rolling and buy more 290X/290 cards :rockout:

my 290 and gelid icy2 will be here tomorrow...

im hoping that the driver switch in 13.10beta9.2 to rpm from pwm will allow me to use the fan header rather than molex (vrms didnt cool well enough with the pwm fan curve.

Someone created a thread at my home site just like this one... but he doesn't even own the card yet... :slap:

Looks great, can't wait to see you get your cooler on that baby.

As for me, I just for my Sapphire 290 the other day so I'll be throwing some benches at it and then posting them. I also got my waterblock in today, so it's going to be put on it in the near future (which means that 2 7970s will be going up for sale ;)) Currently my 290 has replaced my 7770 in rig 2 for the time being, that is to test and ensure stability and that all is well before putting it in my rig on water. :D

I do have to say that when I first installed the card and tried out some gaming, I did hit a bit of throttling, but I think it's better now with the recent driver release and adjusting the fan slightly. At first I was super mad, but then when it evened out I was pretty happy with it.

The only issue I've encountered really is that the only 2 times I've gamed on the card, upon the first beginning of a gaming session, the pc crashed shortly into the game: screen goes blank, sounds still runs, have to hard reset. After rebooting, everything seems to be fine without crashes, games plays fine from then on. It may be the game, as I've only test it out on Nazi Zombie Army, and it may be a driver bug, and it may be Windows 8.1, and it may not happen anymore.

Anyway, I'll be posting pics soon too. My phone crapped out on me so I'm camera-less for the time being, but maybe I can steal my wife's tomorrow. ]

Soon to update :toast:

Edit: Also, I don't think there's anything definitive here about unlocking the 290 but I just started to read through this thread over at overclockers.net. Sounds like a gamble!

A lot are probably waiting for non ref versions and price drops, esp since you can now get a lot of OCed non ref 780s for $500. There's also a lot of people already on 7970s (myself included), which quite frankly is adequate to get you max settings on pretty much all games.

BTW, where's YOUR commitment? Are you just coaxing others to commit to satisfy your curiosity?

Do any of the owners see any benefit of the TrueAudio chip in the R series? Does it replace the mobo audio chip?

The only comments I've seen on TA so far are it can conflict with sound cards if you don't turn it off.

I've yet to see any evaluation done specifically on TrueAudio performance, but I'd be interested to read what people have to say about it. I've not been able to find any comments on it in reviews. AFAIK though it enhances vs replaces onboard sound. Much like Euphoria is not a physics engine like many think, it merely enhances the physics.

Nice to see AMD deliver on its hype. Just like old times. Now we just need steamroller to do likewise and I'll dump my i7 ;)
