The Nano is $649???!!! I've already ordered a R9 390. I'll wait for HBM to become cheaper. I mean, there's not going to be a huge difference here between the cards, especially at 1080p.

Yea, that was a good call as the 390 is definitely one of the best price to performance cards out there and will not falter at 1080p. With the Nano being that pricey this was definitely a better choice.

AMD is smoking crack. I hope Greenland is more affordable.

Well, the Fury X benchmarks weren't entirely night and day with the 390/390X at anything but 4K, and I can't afford two 27 inch 4K monitors, so yeah... I'm waiting for AMDs Zen CPU, I think replacing my 8350 will go a long way in improving performance. Nor that it's a laggard for gaming, it really is more than adequate, but the single threaded games just run awfully slow if there's too much on screen.

I would get a used Ivy Bridge/even 1366 setup in the meantime.
We'll see what this Zen is..AMD has been disappointing me since 2010.My hopes are there, but not very high.
A 1366 mobo ($200) with a Xeon 5650 ($70) performs much better than any AMD chip.
There's a bigger gap between the newer chips and 1366 than the old k10 ones.

I have a chance at a Haswell based rig, but not sure it's worth the investment to ship out from California. I think I can get another year or of my rig.

You guys realize that it is basically a cherry picked Fury X, consuming much less power even though it gets to higher temperatures (which cause higher current leaks, so more heat generated normally) than Fury X?

On Desktop - yes, although 200$ Mobo in your quote makes me smile.

In mobile space AMD has good offerings, but has problems with OEMs not using it. Check this one out, for instance:

I'd buy it over i3/i5 notebook with no dedicated GPU in a heartbeat, but heh.

I wanted a Carrizo based laptop, but went with a Broadwell i5 5200U based Toshiba, as there wasn't any Carrizo based laptops available when I had to order it - when your job tosses you a free laptop, you pick out the best thing they are willing to afford! ;)

The benchmarks for the Nano made me glad I went with the R9 390 btw - The Witcher 3 runs like hot butter with everything maxed out + hair works OFF.

I think they want around $600 - I'll hold off for AMD's Zen based FX AM4 chips - it will probably go head to head with the next gen i7

With GW2 being DX9 and single threaded, I'm not going to hold out much hope for any real gains on any CPU unless Anet decides to move the game to DX 12, which will never happen.

For the price of Nano you can practically get two 390s if you really were interested in 4k. I like how everyone voted Nano before the price tag become known. I wonder if the poll would change given the information we have now. Not to say the Nano is a bad card, it's just that for what, ~10% more performance you're paying 100% more? If I were to spend ~650 USD, it would probably be on two 390, not a nano. :p

With that said, my experience is the same as yours. I love my 390 and don't regret waiting.
