Like wise It Will be a Second Gen DX 11 part and a 5th Gen DX 10 Part. I suspect a Refresh of the Current Technology in several months from now

OcUK have an advert in the May edition of CustomPC magazine offering a pre-overclocked, customizable rig with up to a 5890 GFX card.

Do these douche bags know something we don't?

They definitely are fags, (CustomPC aren't mind) just OcUK - I thought it was a typo, probably trying to trick people to come to their stupid crappy site.

    *Shakes fist!*

Still, I did think we were going to see a 5890 and it's still possible but with the 6K series coming up soon I'm not so sure. I do expect whatever 'refresh' we see I'm sure it'll have OpenGL 4.0 support though and better tessellation.

Yes I think so too, maybe a refresh of the HD 5800 then right to the HD 6800 before Christmas season. ATI want to keep the lead and will do anything to keep it IMO.

Fairly interesting. Does anyone know how many ROPS the GTX 480 is going to have?

Yes, I've been curious who is your avatar NT?

That and on topic I hope ati holds off the 6 series for as long as possible so I can keep my card feeling new for as long as possible lol

Apparently, TSMC will be there before GF. Plus, ATI has never built a gpu on SOI. Alano is first go around. So, 28nmHP from GF is sometime 2Q next year (I think) and risk TSMC is 4Q this year with production Q1 or 2 next.

Read the thread, if you havn't. It will answer a lot of questions that might come to mind.

Nvidia could too, AMD decoupled from Globalfoundries allowing any company to get wafers made for them

The GTX470 actually has 50% more rops than the 5870 but the 5870 stock has more raster power than teh GTX470:laugh:

It has 25% more ROPs actually (40), but yes 5870 having 40% higher clocks means that the raster power is higher.

You can't compare clocks on two completely different architectures.

sure you can, and a 3GHz quad core has 12GHz of processing power :p

This is obviously being sarcastic. Someone would have not gotten the joke.
    Kenshai says thanks.

You can't compare ROP count either (any unit count actually). In any case within an architecture, what matters is total throughoutput and not how many of something a chip has and that can be calculated multiplying the unit count by the clocks. Inter-architecture comparisons are never accurate, but raw numbers do give a general idea too if you know how to interpret the subtle differences of each architecture under every different circunstance. In that regards, there's no denying that the HD5870 has a higher raw pixel fillrate than the GTX470, because 32 x 850 = 27200 is higher than 40 x 607 = 24280. Wether that will be translated into higher performance on pixel constrained situations or not it's still to be seen.

If you want to know my personal opinion though, the improved cache on Fermi chip will more than make up for that difference, but that's just a very uninformed educated guesstimate based on what we have.

In 3D rendering you do obtain the equivalent performance. Scaling is almost perfect. It's just a matter of looking for the best situation.

you may get the same performance, but MHz is a measurement of time. you cant put two clocks together and claim that you're getting 120 seconds a minute.

That has nothing to do with what was being discussed. You can certainly put two ROPs together and say they are outputting 2 pixels/clock.

I know it was a joke, but I guess it had something to do with what we were discussing and just not a random joke. Otherwise I might have some good ones. Nasty ones though, maybe inapropiate for these forums. :)
