So contemplating going Raid 0 with 2x 240gb SSDs

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KHRYR0U/?tag=tec06d-20

Or i could just say fuck that and move up to the 480gb.

The real question is how many hoops will need to be jumped through to get it working on Z87. I know TRIM is now supported. Also part me want to just say screw it all and go big with a 1TB drive.

Fuck that! Had lived with raiding SSD's... not worth it.

The thing with RAID0 on the chipset(and even with a lot of add-on cards) is that it introduces a noticeable amount of latency. So, sure, the sequential read/write speeds go way up, but the latency kills it. So RAID0 with SSDs can actually feel slower than just one big SSD.

When I did it, granted that was on Z77, the single drive's latency was measured in the 0.05-0.08ms range. When I put them in RAID0, that went up to 1.0-1.2ms range. And that was noticeable.

So I say, it isn't even worth it unless you need that sequential read/write speed for something.

Well that answers that question.

Probably will go either 480 or 960 then. I have a Plextor M5pro Xtreme 512gb anyway.

2x 500 gb class SSDs even if seperate are more than enough space anyway. going 1TB i suppose gives me room to grow but either. question answered.

question now is do i go MX200 to save some cash and get the 1TB or not

MX200 1TB
3 year warranty $317

Sandisk Extreme Pro
10 year warranty $349

i figure the extra warranty is probably worth it.

Well I was going to raid 0 my mx200 500gb for purely games, but I guess I won't be doing that now from this thread.

I like 2 drives over one cancels the chance of loosing every thing, i tried the Raid with my Corsairs and was not worth it tbh but that would not stop me paying a little extra to have 2 drives.

Speed gains re nice if you copy files from one to another often but every day stuff and gaming it's pointless.

As others have said it really isn't worth it. I have a 1tb Samsung Evo 850pro and another 1tb evo pro and was going to do RAID. After really thinking about it and realizing that I really don't need the extra speed ATM it just seemed pointless.

If I want the extra speed I'll just throw in an M.2 drive.
