Hi all,

as I have repeatedly said I am slowly gathering parts for a LAN RIG build. I would like to use after market RAM heatsinks. For the bling factor mainly :), not so much about the cooling. I am facing this choice now:

Option 1: local offer for Arctic RC:

  • no adhersive pads- I have to buy them myself (ebay about $2=1 meter)
  • the picture is real from the offer itself
  • they have been used for I don't know how much time
  • height 65mm
  • The total cost of these+the pads+small delivery to my town is about $9.90 (all deliveries incl)

Option 2: is this thing from Ebay: Please follow link.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminium-H...936?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c39417720

  • height 60mm
  • price: $12.89 (delivery incl.)
  • brand new+ pads included
Colour is not much of importance since I am thinking of repainting them (re-anodising? them) anyway

I can't make up my mind. First option is the cheaper one definitely. But the second one with the screws seem pretty stable? Last time I got a good advice from here, so I ask again.

EDIT: I am picking the Arctic RC one's. Lower risk investment, in case it doesn't work out :)

Either will offer you the bling you require (screw type or adhesive, both work). The real factor as I see it will be the choice of cooling. Being that both sets are so tall, unless using an AIO or water cooling, they can easily cause you issues down the road.

Good point!! Thank you. I am almost a 100% sure the cooler will be: DeepCool HTPC-200. ( http://www.deepcool.com/product/cpucooler/2014-07/7_938.shtml ). And I want to swap the fan with Enermax Las Vegas. It absolutely has to be LP cooler. Otherwise it won't fit. No place for AIO in the case.

The BEST RAM heat spreaders I've come across are the Enzotech DDR-C1. I have some installed on some old DDR400, that I ran @ DDR500 with(my old NF3 rig). I'm still using that RAM in a backup rig. Anyway they're some seriously meaty chunks of solid copper. They weigh A LOT. I couldn't believe how much when they showed up. NOT your average heat spreaders. Heavy Duty. I highly recommend them. Hard to find these days. But there's still some here http://www.aerocooler.com/product_info.php?products_id=576

They will work on DDR3 BTW.

well, I have those ones, on my current Kingston KVR Ram, pretty good, decent Tape, decent size and thickness, also they dissipate heat pretty good!! ram temps decrease 5C under my Hyperx Fan, I got them as a gift from a gooood old friend, still have heat sinks there without a decent use, I will re-tape them soon because one was little bit wrong taped {because of my poor skills,}

I'm looking forward another set to use in another Kingston KVR ram modules that I have, [I don’t waste my money on high price ram …]

Regards,

Those Enzo's look amazing! If I see some available close by, I might give them a shot, but it is too far fetched to get them otherwise.
