so i order parts for my new computer and my ram speed is being limited greatly.
Ram: 2x 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z
CPU: Pentium G3258
my ram is clocked at 2400 Mhz
my motherboard max memory is 1600
my cpu max memory is 1366
if i overclock my cpu, will my max memory speed also increase
please help

What motherboard are you using?

Increasing the CPU Multiplier will not increase memory speeds, only CPU speeds. To increase memory and cpu to crank up your FSB. You board should automatically adjust the speeds supported by both the board and cpu. which more than likey will be 1333.

You will probably be stuck at 1333 unless you upgrade your CPU since the memory controller is on the CPU. Some boards will allow you to go higher than the CPU officially supports though. You can trybselecting 1600 in the BIOS, though it might not be stable.

Even if you stick at 1333 though, the RAM won't be holding you back.

Front Side Bus, it used to be how you overclocks before the times of unlocked multipliers. It has since been replaced by the BCLK(BaseClock), but people often still refer to it as FSB.

Raising your BCLK also increases a bunch of other clock speeds in the system, so you can usually only go to ~105, which won't really help you any.

Even on a Z97 board, the integrated memory controller in the CPU is what controls RAM speed, so the RAM will always default to 1333, no matter the factory rating. If you force it higher, it simply won't boot.

I think 1400mhz is the limit on the g3258, I haven't seen any benchmarks operating at higher mem speeds, but can't say it's not possible.

As I recall, my G3258 also clocked my 1600 RAM at 1400, for some reason...
