Hello all. Posting on behalf of a friend of mine. Lately he has been having some issues with lag. Basically what happens is in pretty much any game things will be running great at 60 FPS and suddenly drop to something like 20 or so. This happens for about 20 seconds or so until everything can fully load and after that it is fine until more graphic intense areas. The specs for his computer are totally fine including.....

    RAM: 8GB ripjaw
    CPU: FX8120 overclocked to 4.0Ghz
    GPY: Gtx550TI
    PSU: 630W Raidmax

The only thing we can possibly think of is the PSU? He hasn't always had this problem. BIOS has been updated, video card updated, nothing running in the background.

    What do you guys think?

Before blaming the PSU it would be wise to check cpu and gpu temps when the slowdown happens, Also make sure nothing in the background is running.

Use GPU-z to monitor temps and see if you can spot a pattern when the slowdown happens.
It could even be something simple like a driver error.

If all else fails then see if a spare PSU can be tested.

There have been times when some of my games have had strange performance issues and it turned out to be an error in a program i use to make my pads work.
Also been times when my drivers messed up and started to cause strange problems with games.

Hmm. We may have fixed it. Turned out the power cable to the card was a tad loose. To the point where the molex connector was out by a pin.

    550ti uses a molex connector?

Either way that's a really loose connection even if it was out by a pin.

Yeah it uses a molex connection. And like stated, thus far no dips in the FPS.
