lots of viruses that MSE wont detect at all. should run a malwarebytes and see what all kinds of diseases you have lol. virus are becoming rampant now because A. they are easy to make and B. people are more knowledgeable about them/know how to use them.

Malwarebytes free version isnt real time. Run it when you want. I run Malwarebytes once a week with MSE for real time. I run Ad Aware on a backup before install due to how aggressive it is. And I run the Kapersky boot disk scanner once every 6 months.

I disagree ! I believe in MSE and I have run other malware bits and stuff like that only to find NOTHING and have that crap slow my system to a crawl !

Holy crap NO WAY ! To me it is not worth all that kind of a fuss . I am not infected now so why even think I am ? I mean I can get all paranoid about it too . But it is not worth it to me . Nothing but some games on this box any way . Hell I have no cash no credit so they are never going to get any thing from me !

All joking aside man you should be more careful. When you act a fool with your rig and email people you could be messing them up also. Just keep that in mind. A lil hassle now could save you a lot of time later.

I run MSE and scan with malwarebytes every month or so. Its been years since I've got infected. Like an above poster last time I was infected I was running a Dell, and thats when I disabled antivirus programs to "make the games run faster".
Between MSE and the WOT extention for chrome, along with some common sense I can pretty much find anything I want online without worry. I don't do any torrenting, as for porn remember two things.
1. You can look, but don't touch(any ads or links)
2. Try to stick to a few sites that you can trust. Going to a million different sites is just asking for a virus.

Sounds like a similar virus/malware that infected my cousins laptop. though it was probably a very early version of this. and rather then telling her she had been caught downloading or watching childporn - it was telling her that her laptop was infected with a virus (no shit!) and the only way to remove it was to buy the anti-virus software that they were redirecting her to when she tried to surf the net.

I set up her laptop for her when she got it, I set up all the anti-virus and firewalls when she got it. But I wasnt the stupid one that was going around clicking every link i get in my emails.

By the time she decided to call me, the virus had already pretty much taken control of her laptop, it would start up really really slowly and she couldnt surf the internet as it would keep redirecting her and disabling taskmanager.

I could have taken her hard drive out, plugged it into a docking station and scanned it on my pc but i didnt because i was afraid that my pc would be infected too.

In the end I did the only thing i could do and that was to do a complete system wipe.

HOLY CRAP . NOW I know where I seen this ! I just remembered ! I got this one once too . But when I got it I was looking for anti virus software and the software I got off line I though was free well it took over my computer till I just nuked the damn thing . I can not remember where it was or what it was but I remember now that it acted just like this . TOOK over every thing finally I had to just nuke the OS wipe the HDD's ! and reinstall . after that I never trusted any antivirus software . I just stick with MSE now . REALLY free ! Really works and I feel like I have a condom on when I surf the net !
Oh yeah now I know where I got it from CNET ! I never go there any more NEVER !

I don't look at porn or warez. Warez... That's a word I haven't heard in a long time. The last two that popped up on my computer came from here. www.shangralaguy.com He's a local computer repair shop. Others come from random sites.

I even have an infection now that redirects me every 20 clicks. Nothing can find it but I know it's in there. I'm due for a clean install anyways. Windows folder created ‎Monday, ‎July ‎13, ‎2009, ‏‎10:20:08 PM. Yeh I'm due. lol

I do . I just do not get them . I stick to trusted places and I know that is limited but hey that is what I like . I do not porn surf or torrent the hell out of movies or music . I do not DL tons of useless shit just to say I have it . I stick with things that I know are safe . I have been duped and found viruses on my computer , Like that one time I went to Cnet to get some fancy new AV crap and it turned out to be the same thing you are talking about here ! so I never go there any more . All my tech information comes from this site no need to go any place else . I look at porn I go to the adult book store free to brows there !

For example goblinscomic.com got hacked not that long ago.
