I just sold my 5kBE to a local friend in need. So i now have the money to buy one of the 45nm 5000+ and try my luck. Even if it doesn't unlock it will still overclock better then the 5KBE did for 24/7 clocks

To make it clear. I'm NOT doing this just for the chance of unlocking the extra cores i'm doing it because i want something that can clock better and runs cooler. If it unlocks and is stable thats a big pro.The only cons that i see to this is that i have to spend money that is really "needed" to be spent

the cores were made there to begin with so the "should" be there AMD took chips that "should" be in the trash and resold the 100% working parts

Because they don't expect much to any people to try and unlock the cores. Saves them tons of money to take CPU's with jacked up cores and sell the entire CPU package as a lower end model.

8/10 if you overclocked that CPU i would give you a 8.5/10 its a nice rig.

Also i am going to try my luck with unlocking a X2 5000+ 45nm. Ordering it monday most likely

No, that's not true. It's either unstable, or they didn't have enough faulty cores dies to make a part they needed, so they disabled a perfectly good part to fulfill demand. Either way, it's doesn't shorten the life of the whole chip to enable the disabled parts.

So, to add to cdawall's post, sometimes they even disable cores that are 100% fit and stable, just to have product available. as the lower end tris and duals sell a hell of a lot more, and thru volume make them more profit than the more expensive quad cores.

Pure coincidence. Very few reports of that floating around.

    See above

That's always the best way to go about it, as it's guaranteed to be a quad, but if you can only afford a tri or dual core, it won't hurt to try and unlock it.

If I'm not mistaken there has been reports of the chips dying prematurely because of that. Keyword IF

i did add the good chip rebinned just not in that post lol. oh and some of us buy dual/tri's that unlock just for the fun of it unlocking is just a bonus on an already good purchase.

i have never really even seen a chip die prematurely of that maybe it was the guy who unlocked it pushed the shit out of a bad core and killed something else? last chip that i had die was a disabled quad (athlon X2 7750BE) it went out all on its own lasted a week then the thing didn't boot at stock had nothing to do with unlocking anything it just died think that may be what the rumors are about?

if it dies RMA it nothing wrong with sending back a broken part

9.5/10. Sound card and better monitor or more storage for a solid 10. Sound card is a must for any 10 rating. Take your pick from the other 2.

i give you a 7.5/10 - thats the average for both your systems, they seem fairly equal apart from the screens

(this would change when the 260 arrives)

I tried to make mine about equal with the parts i had available to me
when the 260 gets here i think i am going to put the GT in place of the GTS as its the older G80 one.but performance wise i don't notice any difference in benches or the light gaming i do.

9/10 for you. Like rig nice OCs. thats about all that i can say about your rig. I don't see any faults with it. Unless i want to be very picky and say your GPUs are getting old and need replaced by 2 5850s or better but ATM that is overkill

due to the summer heat i'm running one card for now, and i can still run every game smoothly at 30 FPS + with 4x aa

the second card truly is overkill - but in the meantime, i stick it in my media PC for gaming sometimes

    8.8/10

hard to get better, but your screens smaller than mine :D

(half as much ram, and onboard sound takes a little out too)

9.5/10 That overclock is wicked for the voltage

Well I guess that does it, I will have to pull the trigger on a 24" :p

decent ratings but i would like to know how the crunching rig gets better. Midnight has more ram, faster GPU,nore HDD space. unless you based it on what they are being used for. all of my rigs are used for crunching and folding.(i have 4 rigs ATM and more on the way :p)

EDIT:read your post again sorry. So you did base it on use :toast:
that just proves my point that 2x5850s aren't needed
