Well my friends mobo jus died in his ghetto gaming computer. So we have ram and an HD. he's currently using a 3870 so if necessary we can keep using that.

What processor did he have? Why can't it be reused? And if he is using DDR2 that limits the choices further.

I don't think, on this budget, you are going to get anything better than a HD3870, so I'd just stick with that and focus on replacing the motherboard/CPU/RAM.

If he wants to reuse his DDR2 I say:

ASRock A770DE+ AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Mother...

    AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache...

    Keep the HD3870.

If he wants to use DDR3 I say:

ASRock M3A770DE AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

    AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache...

    GeIL Value 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8...

    Keep the HD3870.

Keeping the card can make the costs quite easier and you can buy only mobo and cpu

I actually might help him out and give him one of my old 3870's.. so gonna update this to be a crossfire capable board.. cause 2x 3870's still has enough power to brute force its way through 99% of todays games

770 chipset is even worse. If it was for me i would certainly buy a better mobo, cuz i thing the mobo is the most important unit of the pc army ;)

Did you find anything yet? I have a MSI K9A2 Cf-f and a AMD 5000+ BE. You can just shot me a price. I've been trying to move it forever. I don't know if I have enough money to ship it thou.

There is nothing wrong with the 770 chipset. The most important part of a pc is the cpu I doubt he is overclocking like crazy so this board should work great.

while there is a BIAS, it can be somewhat helpful as a guide, as long as you don't take word for word his advice

^ but yea, best way is to explorer newegg yourself lol
