People break the rules in the F/S thread all the time, whether it's posting without images, heatware, etc. Why not just shut it down then?

It was getting out of hand, I would be embarassed if someone (like the Mrs) walked in and those pics were on screen (I've already self-banned myself from the WCG Daily Pie thread)

I will still be bumping my threads on holidays with an appropriate picture though :D

lets flip this on its head then.

lets pretend these images werent allowed from the beginning, give me a speech here to convince me they SHOULD be allowed.

what purpose do they serve? how does it help users in the sale threads? how do we prevent it getting abused? what kinds of images are allowed?

Thanks for making my point. Unless you're calling me a troll, because I'm pretty sure I'm just asking a question about a rule that you tried to slip in with no announcement or even a post to make note of it, like every other change that has been made in here.

All I wanted to know is why something that had never previously been hinted at as a problem in the couple years I've been here suddenly became against the rules. What is this, Minority Report?

AS for why it should be allowed, I think you need to look no further than any tech trade show on the planet. Hot girls sell tech stuff.

Those are the guidelines for posting in this section. If someone wants to throw a picture in with their bump, fine, however the pictures are to remain clean. Are they necessary? No. If anything they distract from the purpose of this section. If a seller has a problem with people posting anything in their thread, report it so it will alert the moderators. People need to remember that there are younger people who use this forum and to know the difference between something that is appropriate and what is not. Are pictures of half-naked women appropriate? Not really. It is up to the moderators who overlook this section to moderate this section at their discression.

At this time there is no need or reason to amend or add any more rules to this section. Again, if a member finds something offensive or something that doesn't mesh with the guidelines, please report it and it will be dealt with.

alright, we'll do it that way.

but then we're just gunna get heaps of reported posts anyway - such as the one that prompted me to add the new rule in the first place.

and then we end up in hte same situation again, where it gets removed cause it offended one person, 50 others say "bring it back! no rule against it!" and another 50 who tell me to not be a hypocrite, why remove that one that got reported and not all the others?

i love me some naked internet whores as much as the next guy, but honestly this kinda stuff should not be allowed on techpowerup. just put it on generalnonsense. i check tpu at work and i would honestly like to avoid the embarrasment of clicking through TPU links filled with practically naked women. just saying.

It's up to the members of the forum to report these things. We are not babysitters. Some people don't mind if bumps are made this way in their threads, others do. It's up to the discresion of the members and the moderators to deal with it as it comes. Again, to those posting these pictures, remember that this is an "all ages" forum and to respect those of a lesser maturity level. If you find a post that doesn't fit in here at TPU, report it and it will be dealt with.

Rules question because I do not wish to be at the receiving end of a banhammer:

Can I post NFR software? I've won a number of contests and I just don't really need the software, I'm sure someone can make use of it and it would be cool if I could make a little green.

NFR software seems to fit the bill of all the rules unless I'm not reading or missed something but I like to be sure. I'd like to post this stuff in time for people to order it for/just after the holidays.

Thanks mods, you've been doing a good job!

It depends on the software and/or whether or not it is legal to sell. Most likely it's not, assuming NFR stands for "Not for retail".

I just want to reiterate something. If any of you notice a thread in this section that doesn't meet the guidelines, please use the report button. It is not necessary to post in the thread to remind people of the rules. This will create less work for the moderators and would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

price check threads are a no in B/S/T, imo ask in system builders advice as to the value of a system.

Is it ok to post members that have been blacklisted from other sites that may be traveling towards here?

I guess reporting them to a moderator is ok. But regards making a post in public about them, I have my doubts - we can't really go into the history of why they were blacklisted, and there always exists the possibility that they were blacklisted unjustly...

yeah i'll agree with the idea on reporting them. being banned for trolling for example, isnt a concern unless they troll here as well... but the info might help us make a decision should they begin to do so.

Don't forget that he's likely to use a different username and can change his IP address, making it impossible to identify him.
