So I met a guy who wanted to build his computer and i told him i got a bunch of parts laying around that id sell to him these parts being an R9 280X, i5 2500 and a gtx 750ti. He wanted to know what was more powrrful of the 2 gpus so i told him without a doubt the 280x was. I offered him the i5 and r9 280x for 175 for both sense i know the dude pretty well. And he agreed to it but he just came up to me and said he did reaserch and that the r8 280x sucks and that amd is a crappy gpu maker and that i tried to trick him so he bought my 750 ti and i5 2500 for 125. I wish people would stop spreading crap that amd sucks when they don't. Neither companys suck. Have you had any experiences like this?
Sorry if this is in wring area to post didnt know where i should put it

Plenty of experience with similar situations. Heck one of my friends when I told him my updated rig back about 2 years ago (3 R9 290X's and a i7 5930K) asked me why I would cripple my system by buying AMD video cards instead of pairing it up with Nvidia (He stated if I was going to do AMD I should have done both CPU and GPU as that would be better LOL)... Had plenty that really got under my skin...

I recently had a mate building his first desktop pc, luckily for him I had a first gen i5 lying around, he accepted my offer, and then quickly withdrawn from it, insisting that his A10-5800 was a better choice. This argument can go both ways, my friends.

It's not that the 280X is less powerful, it's that a lot of people have had issues with the 280X for one reason or another but, it sounds like he over-reacted.

Oh god yes, people are idiots.

A friend of mine gets lots of damaged laptops that we repair together - CPU swaps, LCD panel swaps, that sort of thing. Three dead laptops make one good one, a lot of the time.

Without fail, anything that says i7 sells with a huge price premium - to the point that a 1.7Ghz i7 w/ IGP laptop sells for $500+, while a 2.9GHz i5 + AMD 7670 2GB laptop sells for $250 :/

Well duh! What i5 was it? 750? 760? That A10-5800 has a MUCH bigger number in its name! 7.7 times bigger!

I had a roommate who would always tell people he could fix their computers for them, then immediately call me and ask me what to do. I'd give him the best advice he could and he'd never take any of it.
No, you can't use graphite bike chain lube as thermal paste. "But it's all I have." That doesn't mean it'll magically work now! "What about a piece of aluminum foil?" NO! Go to Radio Shack and get a $2 thing of thermal paste. "I don't have $2" You NEED real thermal paste! "Well, I'm using the foil now and it's not crashing." Yeah, but it's probably thermally throttling. You neeeeed thermal paste. "I'm going to give it back to him like this. He's going to pay me $75 to fix it."

and said he did reaserch and that the r8 280x sucks and that amd is a crappy gpu maker and that i tried to trick him so he bought my 750 ti and i5 2500 for 125.
If the 750 Ti was apparently better, you should have charged them more then.

Edit: It's good that you charged them less for it, but I feel like stupidity (and the insult to you, honestly) should be punishable somehow.

Edit 2: Here's Anandtech's comparison between the two GPUs. tl;dr the 280x has twice the performance.

Depends on the game, I bought them originally because I wanted to play 4K but I ended up not enjoying 4K and instead (Through an interesting series of events) got an 1440, 144hz Acer Freesync display. Depends on the games because when I don't need the power I either disable 1 or two of the 3 cards since its unnecessary sometimes and just causes extra heat. In BF4 I almost never dip below 120FPS (With Crimson FTR set to 144hz), Rise of the Tomb Raider does not like the 3rd card (Only in some sections oddly) but keeps above 90FPS with two, Crysis 3 stays pretty solid above 100 FPS with all 3, and Doom likes all three fine and keeps stable above 100FPS no problem. All depends on the game because honestly one issue I run into (Hence why next purchase this year will be like this) is the third card is either loved or hated by some games so I will only be buying two cards next generation.

I used to be a big Quad user as I have had 2 9800 GX2's, 2 GTX 295's, and 2 HD 6990's. However its gotten to be more of a bragging rights thing than gaining actual performance so I swapped down to 3 last round and have decided to just do two this round.

the i5 and r9 280x for 175 for both
If you tried to get that combo in my town the r9 280x would be more than 175$
and choosing the 750 Ti over the r9 280x was dumb of him but what can you do. He should have trusted you better.

To quote @Toothless: "Your friend is an idiot."

Yes, sums it up nicely. If he did ACTUAL research into reviews and benchmarks, he'd have proof that the 750Ti doesn't even occupy the same zip code as the 280X. People....:shadedshu:
