Sad truth is that only newegg has these prices and in the UK the 290X with custom coolers go for 450-500GBP while the most simple GTX780Ti is 600GBP. That's 20-25% more expensive for ~5% performance gain.

I'm glad I got mine when I did too, and I should have bought another one on my credit card while the price was $400. I'm looking forward to the mining craze ending soon, but then the market will be flooded with cards that were mined to death, probably sitting at 95*C their whole lives.

I'd be very hesitant in buying a card used exclusively for mining. It sucks for me because I'll need another reference card to go with mine, which will probably be near impossible to find new by the time the craze ends.

Titan at $999 was price gouging last year, and please don't get me wrong, I bought a couple of those on release date, because back then there was just nothing that compared to it in terms of single GPU performance, I have thoroughly enjoyed my cards since, but the truth is the price to performance ratio was way off.

290X at $549.99 was an awesome value back in November, equal or better performance than Titan at almost half the price. Like I said, that is no longer the case

I was really hoping Mantle would do really well and force nvidia to use their big chip right out of the gate with Maxwell and we'd see an end to this "Titan" bullshit, but the latest reports I've seen following Mantle BF4 benchmarks indicate they're going to do things exactly the same as Kepler. Midrange at highend prices and a proper highend chip at $1000+.

I wish the PC enthusiast community had the cohesion to get together and boycott $1000+ cards. If nobody bought at that price they'd eventually go back to selling those same top chips at lower prices. They're just selling chips at that price for profit; not out necessity.
