I let a friend borrow my laptop because her desktop is in storage. She returned it to me a complete mess! Toolbars were every where. I used Malwarebytes 2.0 to clean things up. Now, I'm getting a regsvr32 error.

The .DLL file that's being referenced no exists longer on the system. The strangest thing is, there's a .txt with the same name of the DLL. When I opened the text file with notepad ++, all of the contents is gibberish and has special characters. I used CCleaner to scan and fix the registry, but that didn't work as well. The actual DLL file no longer exists, so my question is will regsvr32 /u work? I think the directory may have been deleted.

Here's the .DLL file name: LFCMP13n

Try running a repair with a windows disk, alternatively, nuke the damn laptop after backing up your data. Then reconsider loaning your laptop to a friend, be it male or female.

EDIT: Quick search on the Microsoft forums recommends a repair/reinstall in almost every situation. (I'm assuming this dll is claimed to be in your TEMP folder?)

I'm not if this folder is consider to be a temp folder, but it resided in: \AppData\Local\Hpkqtsxqvj

I'm assuming it is a temp folder because of the random letters.

open a Run... prompt and type in %appdata% if you don't know how to get to that folder, it's a hidden folder in your user profile. I still recommend running a Windows nuke.

That is pretty much a virus. Try Combofix before nuking the system, it can fix some nasty things that viruses leave behind.

sounds like a virus removed your dll and was going to replace it with a trojan or similar infected version.
you could probably get the dll manually from a diferent computer or the internet, and that would fix that 1 problem...
but really the system sound pretty infected. so i would advise a reinstall to be safe.

Can you run http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/ and report log

ps. when ever you borrow ur pc or let some1 else use use ur pc, create new account with limited rights

I've been contemplating on using HTJ. On my other laptop (which I know is clean), there's a lot of "file missing" entries. Most of them are in the system folder. Is it possible that HJT doesn't work well with Windows 7?
