I am in the process of installing a new sound card, in an HP 6200 SFF. My problem is how do I disable the interactive Realtek, or will my new sound card just over ride it?.

there should be an option in the bios to disable the realtek completely otherwise windows would disable it automatically if it detects another soundcard being run

Just put the new sound card in, install the drivers, and then go to playback devices and select the new sound card as the output device.

There is no need to disable the onboard sound card.

No it won't, it will run both sound cards. You have to pick what output device you want the sound to come out of in Windows.

Like the other has stated. Dont even go into the BIOS. Go to control panel and click on 'sound' then select the device you want to use and set it to default device.

Sorry, post was made at near 4 in the morning, What i was supposed to say is quite often it would autoswitch to the new soundcard. Disabling the integrated sound in the bios prevents possible conflicts and simplifies things a little - At least its what i do anyway. If i could disable the audio stream from my HDMI out for my 970s then id do that too

Ive had cases in the past where a few games would struggle to pick which audio device to output to and disabling the ones that arent used or needed either from the bios or within windows can help clear that up. Problems like these are few and far between but then again Ive always had my integrated audio disabled by default and ive done it for more than 10 years so each to their own

Its what i do

At the very least you could disable it in the device manager.
