Hello all. My download speed is 200 down, 20 up. When my wireless router is connected, I get 90 down, 20 up.
I have the latest firmware flashed, and no change.

I have a TP-Link Wireless 300N Model # TL-WR841N
My network card on the PC is a Intel(R) 82579V.
My broadband cable modem is Arris Surfboard SB6183

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :toast:

The speed limit could be by design.

pci limit is 100mb sec , Are you are using a pci card ?

Here's your problem. The router you are using only has 10/100 LAN and WAN ports!

HARDWARE FEATURES
Interface4 10/100Mbps LAN PORTS
1 10/100Mbps WAN PORT

You'll need a new router to take advantage of higher speed connections.

pretty much the next model up in the TP links from what he has is gigabit, and would provide the speeds he's after.

That's for the wireless client to wireless client only.

Power line adapters do that also. They say 500Mbps and then have a 10/100 RJ45

wireless standards are half duplex, its marketing bullshit.

so *if* you have 300Mb clients, you can get 150Mb in each direction - but with 100Mb ethernet ports, you simply wont. They run by the assumption that you will have several wireless clients, and that speed is shared between them.

300Mbps is assuming perfect modulation too. AFIK, a system advertized as 600Mbps would perform better in similar conditions compared to a 300Mbps system, assuming the client is also capable. (Has a similar effect to channel width, dun'it? You know, that spatial multiplexing witchcraft?)
Point being you might be limited by the 100Mbps ethernet ports if you're standing right next to the AP, but gains would probably be seen when signal strength is lower (where modulation/throughput would normally drop below 100Mbps).

Edit to clarify: Everyone in here is correct, I should say. Just wanted to add that the 300Mbps (or more) maximum modulation can still be useful.
