The anticipated game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, based around the Chernobyl disaster is now set to be released in the Fall of 2006. This announcement from THQ comes after several delays to give the developers more time. Many speculate that the game may even be released around April 26, which marks the day of the disaster 19 years ago. There has been an Alpha available on the Internet with 2 playable levels (much like it was with Doom 3), so people are getting quite excited about the game. The official website has released a video of actual gameplay footage, a few months ago, which looks absolutely amazing. The pieces for this game are falling into place slowly and it does not seem to disappoint.

Wow. More than 1 year away...

I was expecting it to be released before 2006. It was supposed to be out May 2005

yea, they kept pushing the release date, and the game did not have an official launch "window" for a long time. But considering the video footage released, I am willing to wait for a great game. Not just the eye candy is awesome, the AI, surrounding world (with the pockets of anomalies and more) and the storyline are just crazy...I have been keeping an eye on this game for around 2 years now..if not longer...lets hope it does all its suppose to.

    cheers

I personally think this game missed it's release window. It's been talked about for so many years now, that it's almost irrelevant in the post-Half-Life 2 world, whether you like that game or not.
F.E.A.R. looks like it's half to a full generation ahead of this game. The engine in Stalker is not quite up to that level, based on the latest high res movies on the official Stalker web site (IMO) - although the graphical assets (textures / models) seem good to very good.
Of course the gameplay is what will count, so we'll have to wait and see. I'm no longer as excited about this game, especially after the E3 no show.

You made that post, which makes it biased.
The screenshots ive seen look like its between source and doom 3, and even if they developed it for a year I doubt it would be much better. The doom 3 alpha leaked in 2002 looked jsut as good as the final game, just at a lower resolution.
