The Chrome 400 GTX is the latest addition to the S3 Graphics Chrome 400 series, delivering exceptional graphics realism and stunning HD multimedia performance in optimized desktop and media PCs. Based on the low profile PCI Express Gen 2 graphics card specification, the Chrome 440 GTX is ideally suited for PC users who wish to enhance their PCs to provide dual-stream Picture-in-Picture (PiP) 1080p Blu-ray Disc playback with the latest DirectX 10.1 / OpenGL 2.1 unified shader architecture. The Chrome 440 GTX uses the latest GDDR3 memory for optimized memory bandwidth and native HDMI connectivity for the latest digital displays.

The S3 Graphics Chrome 440 GTX outperforms the current market leader in its class by over 15%(1) in 3D benchmarks and rendered frames-per-second in the most popular DX10 and DX9 games.

"S3 Graphics has once again brought to market another high performance product to complement our growing portfolio of segment leading graphics and video technologies," said Dr. Ken Weng, General Manager of S3 Graphics. "The multimedia-rich Chrome 440 GTX has tremendous value by providing an immersive 'digital consumer' experience for gaming and home entertainment."

    Re-Defining the Hi-Def Experience
The S3 Graphics Chrome 440 GTX gives users the perfect balance of leading DirectX 10.1 3D performance, high-quality dual-stream Blu-ray Disc playback, and advanced display connectivity using a high-speed, 64-bit, energy-efficient DDR3 memory bus interface. Display connections allow HDMI with audio, dual-link DVI (DVI-D/DVI-I), and an optional CRT connector for enhanced productivity using configurable multiple display settings for smooth image details at higher resolutions.

The Chrome 440 GTX incorporates a higher performance ChromotionHD 2.0 video processor unit (VPU), advanced filtering, and cutting edge post-processing to perform ultra smooth decoding of MPEG-4/AVC (H.264), MPEG-2, VC-1, WMV-HD, and AVS video for Blu-ray content and a movie-going experience. To further enhance operation for home theatre applications that demand cool-and-quiet operation, the Chrome 440 GTX features PowerWise technology for a power smart design to maximize heat dissipation without compromising performance or features.

S3 Chrome is great technology wasted. I think apart from discrete graphics cards, they should incorporate this GPU into a motherboard chipset. AMD did just that (entry-level GPU into a chipset) and ended up making an extremely powerful IGP in the AMD 780G. Some evaluators found the AMD 780G to cross 2000 3DMarks in 3DM'06. If only VIA could roll out a AM2+ supportive chipset with either this or the older Chrome 400 incorporated, it could go head on against AMD 780G. Intel still doesn't have an integrated solution that comes even close to 780G.

Nice card for an HTPC. I wonder about noise level.

S3 have the potential to rival AMD/ATi's & Nvidia's high end gfx cards.
A 3rd player would be great for all of us!

Damn they just don't die!! When people start to forget about them they come out of the window to say they are still alive. Where the hell do they get money to produce a product?

They actually deliver extremely good products for what their purpose is. Their cards run extremely cool and use practically no power.

Even something like ASUS Maximus Forumla has a pinch of VIA in it, the Firewire controller.

its a shame they announce it and its already going to get blown over by the other 2 companies.

If they would Stay with Cycle they could probably get a lead of the other 2.

How so, S3 has been quite bad with drivers overall. They haven't bothered with the high end market in many years. What makes you think they can suddenly do it right?

there is not a chance they can compete in the high end or even mid range market. however, the low end market is certainly big enough and profitable enough to make a good living - if approached right

You mind doing some PhysX testing (FluidMark or Vantage Physics) with 9400GT? Interesting to see S3 review as well :)

You havent by any chance gotten multichrome to work have you? Im running a 790FX board and picked a pair of these up to play with, and even with the digicool drivers (243 release), I cant seem to get these cards to work in Multichrome. In GPU-Z under multichrome its stating unknown, both cards are installed and i get clock speed and temp readings off both, so Im not sure what the issue is. Just curious if youve had any luck? :)

    Thanks!
