Safe overclock on 5850 Advice plzzzzz

Hi, Folks just bought a sapphire 5850 and im overclocking it, im currently sitting at core 1000mhz memory 1100 ive done a stability test useing furmark for 20 mins temps are 68c at 70% fan speed could i push further ? which is more important to overclock core or mem ? any help would be appreciated cheers.;)

How are you getting 1000mhz core without adjusting voltage?

You could take your card apart and see what kind of GDDR5 it's using. Then you'll know if it can hit 5870 speeds.

oh sorry the voltage is at 1.2 in msi afterburner. Sorry i dont wana mess with my card taking it apart.

1.2v for 1ghz core is excellent! Not sure on safe voltage, but you don't really need to go too much further. Just be sure to keep temperatures in check. :toast:

ok mate just tryed 1100 on the core and it locked up so i take that 1000 is where i should stay at. which is most important to overclock core ? or mem ? cheers again for your advice.

Core is most important. Have a look at some other 5850 threads to see what they are using for voltage. With 70% fan and 68c you are reaching the thermal limits of the cooler. Testing how far you can take the memory is easy. If you overclock it too much you will just notice a decrease in performance as it will automatically throttle the bandwith (for the lack of a better term.)
