I upgraded my cpu to i9 13900k and i kept my rtx 3060 12gb so i expected rise in performance but those games that I have tested gave me the same fps as with i5. I have 32gb ram 6000mhz , ssd, for cooling I use Noctua dh15 chromax. Is this normal or may something be wrong. My Timespy results are 8880 gu and 22200 cpu, so that doesnt show any problem.

Because your GPU limited. CPU tests will show an uplift but in games where the GPU is holding you back you will see no change.

Ok thanks, so if I had like rtx 4080 and jumped from i5 to i9, there would be significant diference?

Surely this is a troll question...

No. In gaming the difference between the i5 and i9 is not all that big.

Precisely. The 3060 is not enough to show any difference between two CPUs. Though “significance” will depend on multiple factors. If you run 4K at high settings you will still be GPU bound, so less difference there.

Surely not, Iam new to this stuff I just got a gaming pc, so I mistakenly thought the cpu upgrade would help even with mid range gpus.

Even with lets say rtx 4080 at 1080p?

This is tested with a 4090, the fastest gpu you can buy atm - the difference will be much smaller with anything else.

Will depend alot on the game in question. Csgo, sure - avatar, and the likes of it, no.

The dirrerence 33% at 1080p is pretty decent.

Sure, but that's a 4090, a card that's roughly three times (if not more) faster than your 3060. So... you know, unless you are upgrading the GPU in the nearest future you won't see a difference.

if you were at 1080p, there would be a measurably difference, yeah.

In AAA singleplayer games there for the most part wouldn't, no.

That is unless he buys a 4090.

It's just a couple games like Star Citizen which benefit from the CPU upgrade but overall, if you got a recent i5 you don't need to upgrade your CPU for gaming. RTX 3060 would be CPU limited in AAA by i5 from... 2017. Not from 2022. If you want to increase your gaming performance you should return this i9, put your i5 back and invest this money in a faster GPU. RTX 4070, or RX 7800 XT as a bare minimum for it to make at least some sense (+55 to 130 % performance depending on a game and settings).

The 4080 is cpu bound in many games at 1080p. Besides, it was just hypothetical, to confirm the concept that cpu will matter more with a higher end gpu, and lower resolution.

You should compare .1% and 1% not the average fps. That is where a better CPU will make a difference if any.

Yes but most of that difference is coming from games where you're already running freakishly high FPS. Counter-Strike for example yes you get almost 200 more FPS but the game on the 13400 is already running over 400 FPS.

Also running an almost 2000 dollar GPU that less than 1 percent own as well
