Yup, can't play Lost Planet demo with the card, kinda pissed me off!

i would go with the 8600gts on my part...mainly because the only place the x850 shines on the benchmarks is with the AA and AF turned on..ati has always had that over nvidia, and then again you have to look at the drivers they were using 97.24 for nvidia i believe? old drivers that still had bugs in them...

Sapphire X850XT: best $214 I ever spent.
Spent $111.111 on refurb(super fresh and clean) x850xt pci-e on nov 2006

Thats a helpful site.

Was gonna go vista and grab 8600gts but as seen on the site... they arent far off... it would be a waste same goes to 7800gtx in fact its hard to find these days.

As of now I'll stick with x850xt... when I was in lord of the rings online beta, I can max out everything on 1280x1024 resolution with smoothness and no major lagg. I also play most free2play asian mmos grind festival such as silkroad and fietsa online (close beta) and ocasionally Dark Messiah, UT2004 and soon to be final fantasy 11 which my current rig is more than enough for it as of now so theres no need to waste money on a newer card that is not so far off from the current one that only has more feature but those feature wont benefit me anything as the games I'm playing now dont require it.

Untill Aion comes out... That will likely be when I upgrade... next gen top end card at one shot.

Okay for all those guys who really think the 8600GTS is bang for buck.. come to my clubhouse first page and read. Rethink it guys.

Anyway apparently some people really think the 8600GTS > X1950PRO. Their argument is indirect and incompetent! X1950PRO CLEARLY is faster in most practical usages. 3D Mark 05/06 is NOT a viable way to really scope the performance of a GPU, Driver optimisations are ALWAYS the case. With a lower fillrate and everything else, it is the reason. Okay another argument, overclocking! Not EVERY consumer who purchases a GPU will overclock, moreover the stock cooling will completely prohibit any overclocking from being possible at all-you heard me NOT EVERYONE OVERCLOCKS. Moreover half of the Nvidia SKUs are completely tight arse against Overclocking (except for good old EVGA :)), if you say that it wont explode or anything, think again. My friend said that, now all he has is a PCB with several capacitors ripped off and some smear of silicon.

Not bashing nvidia or anything, but as I said, Synthetic benchmarks dont mean anything if the performance of the GPU is not reflected in real life gaming.

your right but the 8600gts gets way better frames rate....what kicks the 850's ass is the core and memory speeds..730 -2300....

^Yeah it is better than the X850XT For sure.

Rick, do you not realize that Synthetic benchmarks mean nothing? If the card does better in Synthetic, but worse in gaming, its CLEARLY driver optimizations behind it. Moreover, if you claim I'm an ATI fanboy, think again.

The 8600GTS is a great card. One of the major problems is that nvidia aren't aggressive enough with the clocking of the card. With some satisfactory cooling, at STOCK voltages it can go up to 800mhz. There is a huge difference when compared to my "fanboishly cheaper" GPUs that you happen to hate. I base my findings on FACTs. Not externally influenced results. In fact, read a bit more on my clubhouse and u'll know what I mean.

To HiddenStupid, one major thing is, that its pretty much redundant to upgrade at this point. You already have an X850XT. Nevertheless I wouldnt consider the 8600GTS an option unless you are willing to pay a premium for some decent cooling; it flies when overclocked. If you just want more performance without any issues, a X1950GT/PRO would be a better option. DirectX10 is not a feasible issue to upgrade, the GPU will not even perform well in DX10 let alone DX9.

I get what your saying but i have owned a lot of cards and still have a x850xt ..i also had the 8600gts ..the reason i like the 86gts is it's clocks 740 -2300 also this thread is about benchmarks.. 8600gts vs x850xt and the 8600gts kicks the crap out of the x850xt..also i'm not calling you a fanboy you know a lot.....

EDIT: Yea... 9k on 3DMark06 is a bit far-fetched. Mine was lucky to bump 6k on '05.

Your x850xt doesn't have a shot in hell of beating an 8600gts..i don't care how much it is oced...tell me when that card does 13,000 in 3dmark05 or 122,000 in aquamark3....plus it has SM 2.O....it a good card for it's time but that time has past.........:D

I can tell you one thing, I had an X850 Pro, and X1800GTO, An X1800XT and my 8600GTS.

The ONLY game that the x1800Xt ran better was Prey and Quake 4 thats IT. F.E.A.R, Oblivion, Doom3, FarCry, Call Of Duty 2, and Black and White 2 the 8600 MAULS in. Hell, the x1800Xt could barely run CoD2 above 30 FPS on medium and the GTS takes it on max settings with 1280x1024.

I think that toms hardware had a brain fart and used an 8600GT rather than the GTS, cause I do WAYYYY better in those tests than they show.

I'm going to ask everyone to keep the NVIDIA vs. ATI debate civil, and if at any point it becomes un-civil/out of control, my banstick is extra sharp today.

nice 1 random...as i see it when you look at every other test on that list except the one shown by you.....the 850 gets owned by the 8600....so what gives here?

Seems to me looking at the list at tom's the only thing it did better in was OBLIVION....thats it.

the original post was for benchie's and hands down with the list provided the 8600 is the obvious champ. No fanboyism here bro...I loved my 850 it was a champ. Shit i sent it on vacation to the UK for some Infrared magic. Even all said and done with a Vmod it still gets whopped by the 86. BTW thats why I went SLI with the 7600's cuz they OWN this 850...sorry but they are your facts.
