Hi

I have just built my first PC and I'm bit unsure if my cpu mount is good enough. My built is:

I7 5820k
x99s (mb)
hyper 612 v2
16gb ram
ssd as OS and a normal HDD as storage

my case is haf 932, with top fan disabled, back fan blowing air out, front fan blowing air in and side fan blowing air in.

So I played bit around with realtemp but are quite unsure in regard to the Prime 95 stressing tool, so I assume everything should just be default, but how many torture test threads am I supposed to run? Also should I stop the test if the temperature goes over "x" C?

The CPU will throttle if it runs too hot, so no real worries there. Most people say the comfort zone is 60-70 degrees. I would stop using Prime 95 though as it is way more stress than what youw ill normally see. Play your favorite game and run a program in the background and see what the temps are when you are done gaming.

Hi,

That was my first thought, but having a new pc (had a laptop b4) opens up a whole new series of games and settings to modify and it would be nice to have a idea if the CPU is generally in good place or I would have to replace the mount when I get a new case.

I have recently started using the stress test on CPUZ to test clocks and the such. It is easy to turn off if things go wild.

Okay, I was letting it run for a couple of mins when I was doing some other stuff, but I doubt the cpu load and temps are correct.

edit: my cpu is not overclocked.

Explain your doubts please. It looks fine from where i am sitting.

I am using my 2P system at the moment which is on 24/7, the difference in temps (idle vs load) is 20 degrees, all the cores show different values, which is normal.

You have applied your paste correctly and your cooler is correctly seated in my opinion.

its right..
the first thing i see wrong is that you need that top fan running so hot air isnt pooling at the top of your case by the cpu.
looks like your using p95.. sneeky gave you the best suggestion and there is other tests like aida64 that are easier on your system and give better representation of daily use.
read the p95 info that comes with it.

Explain your doubts please.

Well I did dismount the heatsink to check if the thermal paste had been correctly spread (as I applied wayy to much the first time). Well how is a 100% cpu use even impossible with 40C, when people usually say that 80C is normally in a game, shouldn't a stress test represent "real use" of the cpu? My mates keep saying I fucked up with the heatsink and I should redo it asap.

the first thing i see wrong is that you need that top fan running so hot air isnt pooling at the top of your case by the cpu.

That was my first thought, but somebody mention that having too many fans going could have a negative effect (Now I think otherwise but I'm the first-time-builder here).

I had downloaded the P35 but I was unsure how many threads to run it with, but I'll try out the adia64 as mention.

As HWMon demonstrates your cpu is running at full load, this is confirmed by the result on CPUZ.

If your mates are advising that it runs too cool i would suggest that their own pcs are running hot and they maybe dont really know what they are talking about.

You are fine and you have a very nice set up BTW.

Edit. CPUZ and HWMon play nicely together, some monitoring software will give contraindications if used together.

If you have 100 % CPU use, that cooler and 40 degree C then something is wrong in the temperature reading for sure. What does HWInfo say? The 100 % CPU usage was obtained by running what application? If you plan to run that GPU full time you should consider to power up your top mounted fan.

Put your fingers on the top of the cooler tower.

Cool or hot?

You wont burn or electrocute yourself.

As you can see in my post #5, it's CPUID HWMonitor which shows the temperature and load of the CPU. The stress testing was done by CPU-Z as recommended by CAPSLOCKSTUCK.

its aida64..

Gotcha.

Put your fingers on the top of the cooler tower.Cool or hot?
Well since there are no fan connected, the only real thing I feel is the metal being coldish. However during the Aida64 test it got "warmer" hence why I stopped at 6min into the test. I misunderstood, didn't touch the actually cooler on the heatsink.

I did another stress testing with CPU-Z and Aida64. The first image shows CPU-Z stress test after 3 mins and the other after 6 mins. See the album here: http://imgur.com/a/0K3PI

One shows Aida64 stress testing after 6 mins (, however I think something may not be as it should, as the CPU fan should increase in speed over 'x' and 'y' celsius - During testing it keeps at 840-860 RPM.

the fan is low cfm and low noise so i would just set to 100% and leave it there
is the top fan on now?
temps look fine but your suppose to run aida for minimum a hour and minimum like 3hrs for a full test run. some people do a whole 24hrs but its not really needed if your just a gamer.
when i overclock i use p95 for short ten minute tests for getting voltage as low as possible and when i feel like im pretty good i use aida for a few hours.

Yup It's now on.

I'll start the Aida64 test in a few mins and let it one a good 1-3 hour. I'll post back with the result if there are no issues, but stopping it if, it goes over 90C.

Most systems ive built in past couple of years, had from 3 to 5 coolers and a case with a decent airflow.
My i5 750 doesnt run hotter than 65C which is very ideal (OCed from 2.6 to 3.3).
Under it i have a heater of a R9 280X which runs hotter, 75 - 80C on full load. I cool down the R9 with some custom profiles to run the fans on 75% when opening heavier games.

P95 after i did OC ran for 12 hours with top temp of 65C and no problems.

My case has 4 fans:
1. Front fan - Getting air in.
2. 2 top fans pulling air up and out.
3. Back fan pulling air out.

All silent fans and all at 75% to keep case nice and cool at all times.

You can open side door from case and run stress test and see if temp get lower.

you pc is way different and they are not having cooling trouble after getting the top fan running again.
it can just make it more confusing to people to add things like this without a complete explanation.. like that your using negative pressure and blah blah blah because its most likely going to sound that way to someone without experience.

What am I looking to upload to you? I can't seem to find a way to print the entire graph of the stress testing.

*Note the motherboard spiked to max for 1 sec, not sure what caused it.

Do you think you still have a problem? Because i dont.

Like i said
Run CPUZ bench stress
and HWMon

reset the max and min figures by clicking on the VIEW dropdown in HWmon

run it for 10 minutes. What is the max figure for your hottest core?

AIDA is only showing 4 cores, your cpu has 6...... you must have disabled some or AIDA is misreporting.

no it wouldnt.. chip heat from the sensors is very very localized.. plus the warrmer air will find its way out the case top all on its own.. running extreme cpu loads 80 C isnt hot its perfectly okay..

all the cpu heat will rise and move to the top rear corner of the case.. the rest of the case will not warm up at all.. not unless there are other "heaters" in there warming case temps up..

chucking in a few graphics cards and a few hardrives at the front will warm up the whole case but not the cpu on its own..

i dont see any OP problems only imaginary ones.. :)

Do you think you still have a problem? Because i dont.

Well if the readings I get, are accuracy then no - but still bit unsure what to make of that and what Mstenholm said:

Run CPUZ bench stress
and HWMon

Wouldn't allow me to run it for more than 1 1/2 min before closing itself. The first test can be seen here: http://imgur.com/a/X2u7d and the second one is a stressing test for 10 mins (min & max values were reseted between each test).

AIDA is only showing 4 cores, your cpu has 6...... you must have disabled some or AIDA is misreporting.

Oops - It appears that you have to select them in options, however if it's just to show them on the graph or to count them into the stress test, I don't know - but honestly does it matter? If I decide to set up my cpu fan to blow 20-30% more than it probably will do the difference anyway.

But yeah I kinda figured that either: I totally messed up three separated programs monitoring hardware (in which would be an achievement in itself) or it'll be fine aslong as I don't empty bags of dust and dirt on my pc. Thanks for all the help, I guess I shouldn't speak to my friend about pc-matters as he said it was totally shize.
