Crytek, the creators of Far Cry and Crysis, are mostly known for their shooters with a strong emphasis on singleplayer campaigns. Their Korean studio, however, has just taken the wraps off an entirely online shooter.

It's called Warface, a "near future" shooter for the PC that lets players either take each other on in online combat or, more interestingly, take part in "dramatic multiplayer co-op missions". It'll run on the increasingly standard "free to play" model, where downloading and playing the game is free, while the developer makes money back selling things like weapons and upgrades.
Before we go any further, you should know that as of today, it's only being pencilled in for the Korean "and other Asian" markets.
The game will run on the company's CryENGINE 3 technology, just like the upcoming Crysis 2, with no release date mentioned.

I thought this was completely separate from the Crysis 'world' and was an entirely different game, being as it's only multiplayer? Only link to Crysis is that it's made by CryTek.

Looks like its not entirely in the Crysis universe.. but an online shooter utilizing Cryengine. There is a surge of these online shooters in asia lately, (warrock, blackshot, MAT, Crossfire, etc)

I hope it comes to the West - I'll be interested to see how it competes with the free 2 play Battlefield.

Haven't they got enough wars happening in Korea already? Can't they share them around a bit?

probably to counter excessive piracy in those regions.

extremely low income areas can only afford micro transactions, so they're making the most money they can in those regions.

in regions like ours, they know we'd pay $50-$100 for the game in the first place, so they rip us off even more.
