Setting up network

I need to connect around four computer. While two computers are nearby each other and far off from the Switcher the other two are close to the switcher and close to the hub. Now I connected one of the computers which are far off from the switcher and the connection works and I've connected them with each other but the connection between them doesn't work. Here's a diagram to explain it better

The lan card of comp 2 says network cable is unplugged.
Also when the network is connected the net doesn't work.
comp 1,2 and 4 use XP and 3 uses 98.
Is ICS possible and how?

2x comp4, all connected to comp1, either fix the diagram or fix your topology

Where is the hub? Why is the switch in the middle of nothing?

Also, why win98?

Win 98 because it's pretty old.

So all work, except for win98? Which is connected to the switch just like 1 and 4? Sounds like the 98 machine is simply configured wrong? Does it get an IP at all?

Go to the command prompt and type ipconfig, if 9x supports that at all, otherwise I believe it's winipcfg or something.

What device connects to the internet? One of the machines? A separate router?

win 98 is connected to the the switch.
The one which doesn't work is an Xp machine.
Comp 1 connects to the computer and is connected to the switch and to comp 2.
