Well for my b-day I am getting a board and another video card. Now would it be better( I mean noticable) to buy another 3870 or would a 3850 512Mb give me pretty much the same performance. My monitor peaks @ 1680x1050 so I just want to know which would be the best buy for my setup.

Girl-friend(pretty much wife now) said no to that. Anyways the 3870X2 will NOT fit in my case. Tried it with a friends 3870X2 and the HD rack is in the way and I don't want to cut the case just yet cause I'm planning on a paint job this summer.

    2 x 3870's = one 3870 x2 (go figure)
    2 x 3870's = one 3870 x2 (roughly) for power
    2 x 3870's take up more space than 1 x 3870 x2 (duh)

if you want a good idea of what your 3dmark scrore would be with your setup check my sig for the 3dmark page ;)

???? Is it REALLY TRUE she is giving you the ammunition to say "no more makeup, no more handbags, no more shoes, no more new clothes". Kinky.

    lol @ that...

and ken just go for the 3870, the price difference between them is negligible now (3850 512 and 3870 512)
aside from that, depending on whether your motherboard is going to have dual x16 bandwidth, x16/x4, x8/x8 or whatever needs to be taken into consideration
if not equal across each slot, buying anther 3870 would give you the chance of getting one that can OC higher and be more useful in the x16 full bandwidth slot

either way I still say get a 3870 as it'll be worth it in the end

check out our B/S/T subforum as I knows there's at least 2 members currently selling 3870s at some pretty good price (most of which I believe are brand new)

2x3870s arent larger, he is talking about the length of the card. An x2 is much larger than the single slot 70s.

I currently have the Gecube 3870 so I was looking into adding another card for crossfire and going with the Sapphire 3870 single slot or the Toxic(price is the only issue with this one).

The 3870x2 is just to long for my case.

Do you need a single slot? I would advise against it. More noise for more heat. If you have two slots free, use 'em.

    Grab a 3870. They're real cheap now.

Well, I just purchased the single slot 3870 by Sapphire. I really only have one slot due to my Wireless N card right underneath the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot. If the heat becomes an issue I guess I'll have to remove my X-fi til I get my new board.

The single slot sapphire is a better buy than the toxic. The sapphire does get alittle warmer but it overclocks better. I do see some heating issues with the solo which wouldn't be if the case had a few intake fans.
