should i go dual core

Discussion in 'General Hardware' started by psychomage343, Aug 26, 2007.

  1. i know my 4000 is outdated, yada yada, but going for a whole new rig is out of the question for a while as i'm looking into a laptop for myself, but the question i have is that i'm thinking of grabbing a dual core chip for my agin 939 system, and my question is should i grab a dual core chip for this thing or is my single core at 3.1Ghz fine for now?? i'm willing to spend maybe 200-300 max for the upgrade, but i'm not gonna replace anything but the cpu, i'd like some imput maybe some suggestions on what to get??

If you can use a dual core opty than that would be good.If you can't use an opty than a x2 3800 x2 maybe good if you can get one that overclocks.

A recently produced toledo core would be nice. My 170 is great, but since you're willing to spend the money might as well go for a 185.

  5. def thinkin of an opty, probably a 175-185 or so, not sure, i'm looking into oc results and reviews of the 185 i hear they suck for oc'ing but, the 185 is 2.6stock, and anything made withing the last year from them should oc pretty well, you thing??

  6. hey erocker how does your pc bench with the 8800gts and the 170 at 2.85, what are you getting in 06/05/03??

I have a 170 at 3ghz right now, not orthos stable but for the most part rock solid. I would go with a 180 if i had the choice again. Hope it helps.

Single cores are outdated.... Its horrible the difference... My old Intel 915D 2.8 dual core kept up with my friends 3.2 Extreme.
