I just bought an EVGA 780i SLI mobo, but now I read all kinds of horror stories about it and memory problems. Should I pay the $105 to upgrade it to a 790i SLI board or does that one have the same issues? Feedback needed.

IMHO you shouldn't. There isn't that much advantage for 790i over 780i, escpecially for 105$. You could get a problem free P45-mobo for that price..

If money is no object, hell yes. BUT,..the board you have now is exceptional in its own right.
I have used Tracers in mine with no problem,..I can get them up to 1066 with no over-volting at all and stable as hell.
DDR3 is a little cheaper these days but the gains will be unnoticeable unless you are the benchmarking type.
