and the difference between Detol and some over priced name brand bio/fungicide you buy at ya local / online PC parts store pretty much nothing they both do the same thing
it doesn't react with metals rubber or plastic so it's not going to affect the copper or rubber seals or hoses learn to think outside the box or do you enjoy wasting money atleast i didn't say use half a gallon of Bleach now that would deserve as you say a pop in the face

proof? I'm pretty sure prolonged exposure + heating/cooling will cause some damage as most soaps are not loop friendly.

Dettol isn't a soap it contains no detergent like substances and actually states on the bottle not mix with any detergents

Dettol has some considerable advantages; from low toxicity, low metal corrosivity (important when sterilizing medical instruments), and is active over pH's 4-9. Despite being only slightly soluble in water it has a good solubility in alcohols (ethanol/propan-2-ol 50-87 g/100 ml) and pine oils. It is cheap at £6.59 / 500 ml

Sorry I got really defensive, but you can understand where I'm coming from? I've seen people lose $200+ in components just from poor suggestions. This really should see more research from WCers before I'd use it.

Software A lot.

I used a couple drops of antibacterial dish soap in my loop, distilled de-ionized water mixed with a industrial premixed anti-freeze to a concentration of 25% glycol base. The industrial anti-freeze also contains a molybdenum additive that coats metal parts and turns the coolant blue.

I have had NO issues in the 1+ year it has been running, I though my blocks were getting plugged, however it was my radiator getting plugged with cat hair, lint and dust from our construction on the house. Currently my 5870 at 1.1Ghz runs 6F over ambient at idle, and my loop is running my pump, CPU and then the GPU. CPU sits about 4-8F over ambient.

pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil soap, caramel are all ingredients in dettol. I will not put that in my loop.

Jacques Niemand, 42, of Didsbury, died of "an inadequate supply of oxygen to his vital organs" provoked by over-exposure to Dettol.

Another reason people use silver in loops is because of pets/children.

Why would you add Zinc to replace silver in the reaction? Wouldn't that put Zinc ions in the water instead of Silver ions which is the whole point of putting silver in the loop in the first place? Also, Detol has alcohols in it. Depending on the concentration it could reduce life of the acrylic in his setup.

if you boil your copper parts in water+ vinegar and scrub with toothbrush it will remove all garbage, however, it will leave the block blackish.

best way to run a water loop so it doesnt get crap in it is straight 100% distilled water. NOTHING else.

i've never had corrosion or any crap build up in the blocks.

to clean your loop use prestone rad flush but be sure to rinse thoroughly with hot water several times afterwards.

Amen to that Fits :toast:

I just use good ol' Heinz ketchup with a toothbrush and then rinse thouroughly with hot water, gets everything nice and shiny... :D

That's what I did. I cleaned cpu block with ketchup + salt + lemon juice + toothbrush.
Then use boiled water to flush the rad.

I use only distilled water. :ohwell:

Maybe one day in the future I’ll grow a pair and build a WCd rig. But for now I still don’t have any desire to whatsoever. I’m not really an extreme OCer though and I can’t justify the cost just for a 3.3GHz - 3.5GHz overclock.

Noise doesn’t really bother me…my current rig is pretty quiet I only hear my HAF 932 case fans.

How about not putting anything in your loop except water? That's all I do and things stay clean. Looks like you are making more trouble with your loop than you need to.

Do I really need it? Nope.

Does it look awesome? Yep. ;) that WOW factor. besides, it does lower the temp by 10 - 13 degree.

yea, the silver coil suppose to keep bacteria & algae away. It's ironic isn't it?

In a sealed enviroment with distilled water going through copper I don't see how bacteria and algae can even form. I'm no scientist though.

seems logical. umm, how can I prevent corrosion in the future? distilled water, no mixed metal. Should I use coolant?

Well, I think its aesthetics are a matter of personal preference. I’m more into performance and reliability than how ‘cool’ something inside my case looks. My Noctura looks ridiculous but it keeps my OCd i7-860 10-13 degrees cooler than my non OC’d Phenom 2.1GHz stock cooler computer @ idol & load.

I mean gratz if it keeps your processor 10-13 degrees cooler than your True 120 but still…that’s not enough reason to invest yet.

I just checked the plier, it has some sort of oil on it and paint flakes from the compression fitting.

Here is the plier, I wiped it with cloth.

This is the cause I reckon.
