SKYRIM: How are you planning your character and gameplay style?

With Skyrim being released within slightly more than 24 hours now, these are inevitable questions. Especially considering that character creation is one of the most important steps in the game since it's not like you could afford to lose hours of gameplay just to choose another character type...

- How do you plan to game once you install the game?

- What type of character are you going to create?

- And if you even thought about it, which race and attributes are you going to choose?


My plans won't seem exciting just typed into this post:

I'm going to behave exactly like I would in real life, were I to be dropped into surroundings which I don't know, and seeing people whom I don't know.

I'm going to start the game as an extremely cautious being, trying to hide as much as I can while exploring as much as possible.

I'll be keeping a low profile, perhaps doing side-quests if someone asks me to do simple jobs like collecting stuff for a reward.

I might rob, or even kill to rob, always undercover, if I'm sure someone's a bad guy or could afford being robbed (or killed?)

Obviously I'll be protecting myself to death if I get attacked, for whatever reason.

As regards race, I can't decide yet.
The most obvious for sneaking and thieving seems to be the Khajiit. I've never played TES:IV Oblivion as a Khajiit because I don't like being a non-human somehow. But I think I might be doing it now.

As for attributes, up to this moment my choices are:

pickpocket
sneak
lockpicking
onehanded
light armor
conjuration

But I need to study them more. I'm still unsure about the "onehanded" and "conjuration" attributes...

I want to start playing this game as a low-profile always-hidden sneaky character who discovers everything while allowing the least amount of NPC's possible discover her.

What about you? What are your plans?

I like your approach BP. I never like the notion of using a game as a channel to be a mindless blood thirsty moron. I'll pay as if it were me - though I don't mind killing idiots and people who want to kill me.

I'll be helpful (lots of side quests) and wont harm innocents (if i can help it). I'll mix sword and spell and explore as much as possible before embarking on end quests.

Range was not really necessary in the previous installments, but seeing as how dragons fly around...I think i'm going to include archery as a main skill for the first time in an elder scrolls game.
Bosmer archer = win ?

both for morrowind and oblivion, so i assume for skyrim - i replayed the intro about 4 times before going on to a real quest. i do that to get a feel for different builds. i tend to be sneaky characters that use bows or magic. a lot of crouching, a lot of critical sneak attacks

i have never put much thought into that though. i mean the character i do, but the reasoning and ... narrative i guess, not so much.

I'm going for two distinct characters. You really don't have a choice is you want to enjoy the game as both a blood-lust driven sociopath and a kind thief.

Khajit for the thief. The bonuses are good, and the sneaking around with night vision is a heck of a lot easier.


Human for the sword/spell. You can't really knock the guy who can eviscerate you, assuming that his spells haven't killed you before you can get within ten paces of him.

Is that a big one at a Mall or something? This may sound ridiculous (and I live in a weird Mexican neighborhood at present) but I was sold a pre of BF3 online and told could pick it up at my local store and I got there to find out they stock no PC versions of anything...so you may want to call.

And maybe I'm being "that guy" but Skyrim is just another part of the TES world, Tamriel.

I usually do battlemage as well. Perhaps a redgaurd with Sword/Healing first.

The possibilities are endless but I'll be trying everything Like I did with Oblivion, beat that games like 30 times.

I never did blunt or Hand to Hand though, just not my thing.

I have aspies and dont think me acting like that in game makes for a very fun experience.

Ive avoided reading much about Skyrim so i guess ill find out when i play it, although i did like the 2 handed claymores in Oblivon but i will probably be a magic based character with a one handed short sword since you cant shoot spells with one hand and attack with the other bioshock style.

I usually tank up in games like this.

EDIT: One of the excellent things about this game is you can skill up in blunt and 2 handed weapons and become a beast with a 2 handed warhammer.

The way i usually play is to do the side quests as im doing the main quest. Im joining up the new equivalent of guilds as soon as i can.
