i found this to be pretty interesting. i knew that this was taking place but didnt know how strict it was. its interesting to see that the nf200 chip enables up to 4 16x v2 slots. thats intense!

    Thanks.

It is awesome to see that DFI has SLI LP boards.

Its only becasue all X58 boards have the nf200 chip to enable SLI on them.

The nf200 chip isnt as bad as people think, it only generates alot of heat.

Not true. Looking at the top chart, SLi is done using a native config (no nf200 chip) Having the nf200 chip(s) allows for 3 or 4 way Sli utilizing x16 slots all around.
    Castiel and Fitseries3 say thanks.

My bad i stand corrected. Before these things where released it was well known that in able to have SLI on X58 it required an nF200 chip.

True! Since then Nvidia is allowing for native Sli for a small stipend from motherboard manufacturers.:)

While you may get full bandwidth across all slots with the nF200 chip, it adds latency. It may actually outweigh the benefits of having it. Having the switch chip on Skulltrail, for instance, Tri-SLI suffered in performance compared to other setups.

yeah but going from dual 8x on p45 to dual 16x on x48 with my 2x2s i noticed a big difference.

something like i run would benefit from the x58+1 nf200 chip setup.

Yeah, but the dual 16x on the X48 didn't have to run thru a switch chip. It's native.

All I'm saying is, the nf200 will add some latency, and won't perform nearly as well as a native 4 slot 16x design would (if such a beast existed). AKA: It's just some food for thought.

    i know..

but its not like there is enough latency to make the 3rd or 4th card pointless.

Is there a breakdown of which boards have the nf200 and which don't?
