So usually i put a gpu in the top motherboard slot and it reads in the system as gpu1, and then the second gpu i install reads as gpu2. But for some reason now the top gpu is #2 and the bottom card is seen as #1.

I don't see any negatives from this, everything is working as it should, but its confusing when the top card is called gpu2.

Is it some issue with the motherboard? something with the pci slots got messed up and they read in an unusual order?

Meh things work fine, but its just an odd thing i havnt seen before in the years ive been using sli.

If both are recognized in the correct link speed (x16 2.0/3.0 , etc) I'd leave them alone.

If you previously run a card in say, the third slot and then add another card in the top slot it is feasible the first card retains its primary designation.
You could reseat them and see if it changes.

i recently pulled them out and dusted them and re applied the thermal paste, and before and after i did that they still detected the same way. maybe if i formatted and re installed windows it would correct itself, but im not formatting to fix 1 little issue. or maybe its the motherboard itself so a format wont help. well one day i will format, or buy a new motherboard, so time will tell.

Might help to run GPU-Z and CPU-Z and see if it give you an idea of what's going on.
