So, I think my hard drive is bad.

    The drive was not abused in any way. It was a generic drive with Western Digital logos under the circuitry. Originally a 60 GB drive.

    Epic FAIL! LOL. I had a Seagate SCSI drive do the same thing - gouged inner ring, though the rest of the platter was still shiny :) Got it as a conversation piece in my office.

    If you collect the "dust" perhaps you can re-create the bits. Hahahhaaaa.

    Someone asked me if I could recover the drive and that's exactly what I said.

    "Sure. I'll just cough up all the data I inhaled and start the impossible task of putting everything back where it was."
