My computer simply wouldn't boot into the OS via CD, Hard Disk or External Thumb Drive.

1. Rams - Tested Perfectly Fine. Both sticks single and dual channel were able to boot up when it was chucked into my brother's computer (He's running a Z77 Mobo).

2. Graphics - Each individual card booted up perfectly fine in his computer too

3. SSD + Hard Disks - Same as above

4. Processor - Now i have tried to turn the cores down from 4 to 1 and the same problem persists.

5. Sound Card - Not the issue either

6. Motherboard - BIOS settings are all set to default.

This is the first time my system has totally baffled me even though i diagnosed most of the major parts.

It started crashing when i was clearing my drivers via DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) when it auto-prompted me into Safe-Mode to remove the drivers. Upon removal, it booted up fine into my windows 8.1 and i installed the AMD Drivers 15.2 Beta. While installing, the computer hung on me, even though i assumed that it was still loading, leaving it on for the next 10 minutes as i went to do some business in the toilet.

As such, i did a force shut down and from there on the computer wouldn't go into windows. It would always be in a continuous loop of BSOD which happened in a flash that i can't record some of them down. As such i decided to do a little cleaning up and dusted all my parts. As i managed to get some BSOD, i realized that i had some driver issues and decided to do a fresh windows installation. However, booting up from the CD (Both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 Professional) to install a fresh windows would result in a BSOD. Heck it loads the CD for awhile and just go black screen at times.

Have formatted my SSD and hard disks using my brother's computer so it is a clean install.

Any ideas what's going on?

EDIT: These are the few i encounter BSOD when i boot up. Checking them via the internet has baffled me because if i am not even loaded into the OS, why would i be receiving some of these BSOD??

1. System Thread Exception Not Handled
2. Registry FIlter Driver Exception
3. IRQL Not Less Or Equal

You say clean install but it won't boot from CD. Do you mean the SSD is simply formatted now and you can't install the OS, or you have installed the OS but with the disk in it won't boot?
Obviously, boot device order should be checked in BIOS if it the OS is installed, so it boots first from SSD.
But if you can't install your OS on the SSD, I'd say the SSD must be wrongly formatted?
I am a noob though so my expertise here is limited to IT 101 answers.

Hey there, no worries mate. The OS is installed into my primary SSD which is BOOT 0. BIOS boot up also loads BOOT 0 as priority. I was repeatedly having BSOD and as such decided to do a format via my brothers computer as i wasn't able to even boot up the menu from the CD to do the quick format.

That sounds like graphics or storage drivers but, this particular combo, to me, would scream unstable catalyst drivers. Try installing the latest WHQL or beta version after cleaning the old version out. This happened to me after a failed catalyst install. Leaving a driver installation in a half-baked state can really screw with the OS.

If it won't even boot to the Windows installation CD (I hope you really mean DVD since Windows will not fit on a CD), then graphics or storage drivers can't be it either as the installation DVD will have only Windows native/generic drivers - which all graphics solutions and drive interfaces should accept.

So this is really odd.

You say BIOS settings are set to default - do you mean you reset the BIOS?

Any beeps?

What is the error code with the BSOD?

Yes it is in DVD. Beeps goes well. It went past POST. Don't see error codes for Windows 8.1 BSOD. Only Words. Can't get the Dump files either.

Secure erase that SSD and do your install with no other HDD's installed in the system. Make doubly sure that your bios defaults to AHCI.

Beeps goes well.
"Beeps"? Or "beep"? A successful POST is indicated with a single beep.
Don't see error codes for Windows 8.1 BSOD
If a real BSOD, it will have a Stop code and usually some descriptive text.

And again, did you "reset" the BIOS?

Hi, sorry am using phone to reply forum thus the auto correct at times. Yes, it's single beep. I have cleared my cmos using the reset button in the motherboard. The problem still persists. So far I've been only getting irql not less or equal error.

Also, achi or not, I get the error still. I just can't get past after the loading of the DVD contents from either windows 7 or 8.1 disk.

Check or try a different data cable on your OS drive.
Do not connect the second drive just use the drive you plan for your os.
Make sure it is formatted for NTFS regular MBR or GPT for UEFI.

Windows Setup: Installing using the MBR or GPT partition style
How To Make UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 8

Thanks for the tips. But as I said, after the files are loaded from the DVD, it would immediately bsod me before I even have a chance to choose installation. And it occurred in both Windows 7 and 8.1 disks.

I have also tried running with my ssd alone and the same problem persists. Could I have a faulty motherboard??

Nothing is impossible... Have you tried another source file to create the install disks (usb thumb drive or DVD); as, it may be that the source file is corrupt.

Remove your bios battery for 2 minutes, press the power button to dissipate all power, then put your battery back in.
Only install one hard drive that you will be formatting to.
Boot computer with windows disk installed and format system.
If this does not work your windows disk has errors or your hard drive is not formatted correctly.
Or you have a hardware problem.

I wish I knew where this "myth" of pressing the power button came from. And for a PC, it is myth - though a very commonly repeated one. I suspect it came out of AT Form Factor PSUs, but ATX replaced AT in 1995 as the PC standard!

There are no storage capacitors in that circuit that need to bleed off. And while 2 minutes causes no harm, the CMOS circuit is also designed to instantly drop to 0V, at which point the CMOS memory module instantly dumps any stored data to reset the BIOS. So 15 - 30 seconds is plenty. That said, most motherboards have a reset jumper that will instantly purge the CMOS memory module of any stored data. No need to remove the battery at all.

However, it is ESSENTIAL to unplug the power supply from the wall (or flip the master power switch on the back of the PSU-if it has one-to off) before doing this to remove the ATX required +5Vsb standby voltage. AND and it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to touch bare metal of the case interior before reaching in anywhere near close to the motherboard to avoid ESD damage to your motherboard, CPU, RAM or other ESD sensitive devices.

Note that holding the power button down for X number of seconds is a method used on many notebooks to reset certain functions (like battery monitoring). But again, not on PCs.

Have tried to verify both the installation disks and they run fine. No problem. The bsod occurred in both Windows 7 and 8.1 disks so I doubt it's them.

For the bios, I have removed the battery and unplugged. Still getting the same error.

Well, you tested all components separately. I'd suggest make an Image-file from you Windows installation DVD (you can use Ashampoo Burning Studio for Example- it's free and works well). Create a bootbale thumb-drive (or external drive if you prefer; you can use Pendrive for this). Remove DVD and Second drive SATA cabes and leave only SSD. And try to fresh install and boot again. It shouldn't take more than 10- 15 min for all of it.

i may take the board off from the case and test it again, and try turn it on for several minutes and turn it off then touch the heatsink or components on your board, the heat feels normal? if too hot or too cold could be err from the board but you need to recheck it again

I notice you're in Singapore, do you use a UPS at your house, and is your computer connected to it?

A highly unstable power supply could cause these issues, if your house is precariously wired, or if your UPS is not providing the electric load your PC needs. Perhaps your friend's house electric supply is more stable/his UPS is more stable.

I wouldn't call this solved just yet, since we don't know what the problem was. I'm glad it is working normally again, for now.

Hopefully it will keep working once you bring it home. Otherwise, it will be one of those intermittent things that only happens when no one else is around. :(

Thanks for you curious bunch! Haha.... Anyways, back to topic. Nope i do not have UPS. It's very rare for household to be holding UPS in our country. (Unless i'm running a company) The scenario begins like this

1. Running Dota 2 keeps giving me "AMD Display Driver has stopped working" multiple times even though i disabled crossfire. As such i started running other games like Shadow of Mordor, Witcher 3 etc and it runs fine (Mind you i run these AAA games in crossfire mode)

2. Upon multiple climax fights half way in dota 2, the driver just crashed on me which flipped my switch to rage mode. Decided to download DDU to remove the drivers and re-install them.

3. DDU prompted me to run it in Safe mode and disable auto-driver update. As such being a nerd i am, i just agreed to it and let it remove my drivers. When it is done, it just restarts my computer and boot into normal mode. Installed the latest 15.5 AMD Beta Drivers.

4. Installing...."Screen may flicker during installation" That was the flicker of death. My computer hung. I restarted it and when the Windows logo shows up to tell me its loading, it just BSOD. And the loop continues.

5. Resetted my CMOS to stock, same issue. Pissed off and thought that it maybe due to my computer being dirty, i dismantled it and dusted it.

6. Changed both my Antec 920 h2o Cooler stock fans (Which was buzzing like crazy cos its a crappy fan) to 2 Cooler Master JetFlo (Red LED) and got another NZXT 200MM as the button switch to on the current one in the casing was broken (It has 3 slots for 200MM fan, two top and one side).

7. Got another 2TB WD Black Cavier due to storage finishing soon. Fixed all the parts together and ran the computer again. Same shit happened still. BSOD loop non-stop.

8. Decided to check the individual parts one by one with my brother computer who was running on a Z77 Mobo (All compatible parts). Checked Ram, Ok. Checked SSD (The bootable one), Ok. Checked WD HD, Ok. Checked GPU #1, Ok. (I forgot to check GPU #2). Checked DVD Installation, Ok.

9. Got lazy and pissed. Called my friend up to help me diagnose my PC. Apparently he said my GPU #2 fan was not working. I came by to take a look and realized that during my dusting, i forgot to plug the fan in. As such the BSOD kept recurring.

10. Even though i felt strange, he showed me that it booted up just fine and installed Windows 7 for me. Gave him a beer tip ($40 bucks) and brought it home. And right now as i'm typing, it still occurs to me that what the heck happened before i dusted my PC. The fans were all intact. That is why i am still unclear how is it solved but oh well... Running Prime95 as we speak in OC mode. (4.5Ghz)
