Intel is preparing to discontinue a couple of Core processors in the LGA1156 package, and a few older processors in the LGA775 package. These include the Core i5-661 and Core i3-530, two of the first Clarkdale dual-core processors, Pentium Dual-Core E5700, Celeron E3500 and E3400.

Intel will take orders for Core i5-661 and Core i3-530 till April 27, 2012, and will ship the last of them by October 5, 2012. Orders for Pentium E5700, Celeron E3500 and Celeron E3400 will be taken till December 30, 2011. While the last of the tray shipments will be completed by June 8th, 2012, boxed versions will ship till supplies are depleted in Intel's warehouses.

IMO the 775 CPUs need to be discontinued all together.

Most OEMs have long since moved on to i3/i5 and i7 CPUs. the only people that would buy a 775 processor are those who are probably too poor to make the jump to a new platform or want a final upgrade for a HTPC or server pc.

Produce one more batch then just shut shop and move on. If people want 775 processors. theres hundreds of them floating around on ebay already.

stop wasting time and silcon by making new batches when ebay has more then enough C2D/C2Q's to build your own medium to large sized LAN event that are not being used.

Socket 1156 is it still available ? and for what mobile phones ?

Surely the socket 775 has already been discontinued 6+ months ago or am I missing something.

I can not see anyone paying $300 for a 775 / 1156 when they can get a new 4x times the cpu + motherboard "mid level cpu" for the same price.

Intel why waste another year on 3+ generations back old hardware.

Intel make up your mind, 1366 is being killed off before 2011 is available so following the same line then 1st gen Sandy's should have been killed off 1st Qtr 2011 already ?
Same for 775 is should have been dead before 1156 ??

LGA775 is 7 years old. Interesting that its still around. It even outlived Socket A (462):D

and as long as you have a high-end 775 CPU, it's performance is still up to AMD's performance levels(I know, what til BD and say that.)

I still use LGA775 and the 1st quad core from intel ever made. No reason to change to another quad. I'll go directly for an 8-core when the situation will require it. With an old Abit MB with main 6SATA on ICH9R and PCI-E 1.1 I have everything I need to run any HDDs and any video cards currently on the market.
So 775 it's not that obsolete as some may think judging only by the years counted.

That's an exaggeration, but as I explained above, if you have a good MB to go with on old quad it's all OK and it doesn't matter that much if it's intel or AMD.

newer socket, heck 775 outlived 1366, 1156, 1155.

Course P4 was on 3 diff sockets before they ditched it.

Athlon n Athlon XP were on SKT A

Actually it does as AMD Quads beaten like a dog by Intel Quads.

C2Q is still decent but only if youre a casual gamer or dont really do anything intensive on your rig, but if youre still running a 775 socket. then Q9550/Q9650 (or QX9770 - if you can afford one) is where all the performance is at. I had a Q9550 clocked to 3.9Ghz and i still noticed a massive difference going from that to a 2500k, my bench scores just vastly improved. and it really opened up the throttle for my 5850 crossfire setup i had back then.

So in theory....C2Q's are GOOD, but they aint great.
