Sony will halt sales of LCD monitors in Japan and North America, starting from the beginning of October. Although Sony will continue offering LCD monitors outside Japan and North America later this year, the move is a sign that Sony will soon exit the LCD monitor market, as the two regions are the major markets for the Japan-based company in worldwide LCD monitor sales. Some say even that Sony may exit the LCD monitor market in the first half of 2007. Sony's LCD monitor contract manufacturers include TPV Technology, LG Electronics (LGE) and Amtran Technology. Other big manufacturers like Sharp, LG Electronics and Philips also start to leave the mainstream LCD monitor business while focusing on high-end monitors and LCD TVs.
